Hello there As some people may know, my Gavril Vertex mod has brake glow. The brakes will have a glowing effect on them when the brakes reach certain temperatures. I've decided to not make this an exclusive feature of that mod, but to make it a feature for every car! I went ahead and put it on a couple cars already. In future it will also include some mod vehicles too! How it works: The brake glow has 3 "stages". Stage 1 currently starts at 400°C and is a slightly red glow. Stage 2 is at 500°C and adds some orange to the glow. Stage 3 starts at 600°C and adds more orange and yellow. I adjusted the temps a bit downward to make the brake glow more noticable, so it's not that rare occasion that you can sometimes see when looking at it in the right moment. However, not that low that its always there. Heavy braking may lead to a short moment of red glow. Proceeding to do so will obviously heat-soak the brakes etc. Stage 1-3 look like this on normal brakes. Race brakes glow more. I might change the textures too Here some more images to show how it looks: A bit of technical stuff: If you know a thing or two about modding, this section here moght also be interesting. Basically, the brake temperature gets accessed by a lua program that I have written. It converts the electrics value of the wheels into a value that can be used in a glowmap. The mod works by switching the material of a glowmap between "invis" and the brake glow texture. There are actually 3 extra meshes on the brake now. Each mesh is one stage. That is essentially how this whole thing works! Currently Supported base-game vehicles: (all vehicles are supported) Hirochi Sunburst Civetta Bolide Cherrier Vivace/Toraq Hirochi SBR4 Gavril D-Series Gavril Roamer Ibishu Pigeon Gavril H-Series Buckell LeGran Bruckell Moonhawk Gavril Barstow Gavril Bluebuck Autobello Piccolina Ibishu Miramar ETK I-Series ETK K-Series ETK 800-Series Ibishu Pessima (old) Ibishu Pessima (new) Gavril Grand-Marshal Ibishu Hopper Ibishu Covet Ibishu 200BX Currently Supported mod vehicles: Gavril Vertex NA2 / Fort Focus NA2 Cherrier F320 All base game vehicles that have Disc Brakes are supported in this mod. More mods will be added to this list too. Here some images of how it looks on base game cars instead of just the Vertex Potential reasons for bugs: Conflicting mods Maps ? If you want to see this in action, you can watch this video! (click here) Otherwise you can just download the Gavril Vertex and check it out yourself. Feel free to suggest mods to feature in the mod! Also feel free to tell me what you think of this! Have a nice day!
Dang, I really dig this concept for sure! If it's possible to make it look more like this ^ then that'd be like totally next level. As of now, it's still pretty great that you have it working on other vehicles!
Hmmm yeah I can try to edit the texture a bit, I made it myself with some basic Paint.net skills so it can use some improvement ^^'
I cannot wait for this! This is what will make BeamNG even more realistic, last thing we need is Tire Wear, Brake Fluid boiling, Radio, and windows that go up and down
Oh I can do the radio too already I coded one in the Vertex too, would be easily Transferrable into other cars
I hope the devs expand upon it and allow you to be able to pair your Spotify account, allowing you to play playlists in the game
Well my lua code relies on sound files that are already on my Pc, it’s pretty useless if you wanna use it as base for Sth that streams stuff
I added a bunch of new cars to the mod yesterday and will hopefully get all cars into the mod today. The textures have been changed to be less transparent too... look MUCH better imo!
Alright so, here‘s the plan! The mod is pretty much done, all default BeamNG vehicles have been added, brake temps adjusted, and I’m looking out for any modders that want to incorporate the brake glow into their mod. I’ll send it to some testers and look for any issues, if all goes well it goes online the next few days! Cheers!
Yipee! I can't wait! It's something that will make BeamNG.Drive a real alternative to the likes of Assetto Corsa or iRacing!
Actually, what if you could cut down on the brake smoke, since when you see glowing brake rotors, they typically don't steam or smoke, or at least as much as the game does
Well the glow starts at 400 deg C. That’s way before the smoking happens, at around 700 deg. So you’ll be fine there
