Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car *UPDATE* ( 2/3/14 ) Hello again. The update on my progress for last week is here. ( Verts: 5522; Faces: 3312; Tris: 6682 ) And here is the wire-frame. I have finally finished shaping the exterior body. Now to finish the work on the exterior I have to add all of the little details that gives the car personality. Soon after I have finished with the exterior my next step will be to work on the under-body and chassis of the car. Though I have gotten mostly everything aligned properly, I still have some problem areas I have to correct and other parts of the car I just want to check up on. If it is not noticeable, I'm having difficulty with the side mirror and I still need to clean it up and see if there are any areas I can remove vertices and faces. On a final note, for the future. I'm not sure what engine the road car version of this car had in 2001. I have some pictures of the road and race car engines but from what I have researched they are both supposed to have the same engine. I'm not sure if I should model only the race car engine for both models, or if I should model separate engines for each version the car. Here are two of the pictures I have: If someone can clear this up for me I will greatly appreciate it and it will help me in the future.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car My reply to that dream car thread was better. It was a Tiger II tank. Can somebody please do that?
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car That has nothing to do with this thread. Tracks are not possible right now either.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car You should try to make the model and get it in game if you're up to it ( maybe even find a temporary alternative to tracks until they can be simulated ). Some other people may not be as interested in that tank as you are. Just like in my case, no one had begun an E46 GTR yet ( I know that there was already a regular E46 thread ); so I decide to take it on for myself. - - - Updated - - - Thank you. - - - Updated - - - Thank you. Like SixSixSevenSeven said, please try to keep comments, tips, and constructive criticism somewhat relevant.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car I didn't know that tracks aren't possible right now. If I could make anything in this game, I would. And everybody loves tanks. Everybody would be interested in tanks. I mean, come on, you can't find a person who will say "No." to the question "Would you like to have tanks in the game?". If I knew how to do stuff in this game, I would. I can't even rotate vehicles that have thrusters. I can rotate the vehicles, but the thrusters don't rotate, so, they thrust sideways after the rotation.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car OH. MY. GHAWD! Can you add the NFS Most Wanted vinyls too? xP Awesome model
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car Thanks. I think that I will be able to create that vinyl in the future, but as I said in an earlier post, it will have to come after the livery of the race car.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car cant wait until this car is finished looked every week to see if it has been finished this is a dream car in beam NG - - - Updated - - - when will it be finished cant wait it looks amazing my beam NG dream car - - - Updated - - - when will it be finished cant wait it looks amazing my beam NG dream car
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car Thank you. Though it's coming along well the car still has a while to go. I can't truly give a good estimate for how long it will take, being that after I finish the model the jbeam has to be made.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car oh yeah! would love to drive and also crash this one into a wall can't wait!
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car *UPDATE* ( 2/10/14 ) Here it is again, the update for last week. I am disappointed with the amount of progress I have made this week and I plan to put more time and effort into the model this week. Also, sorry for the late post. Here it is: ( Verts: 5806; Faces: 3452; Tris: 6962 ) And the wireframe: As you can tell, the parts of the car that I began modeling this week were the front headlights. This is taking me a while being that I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around how to properly do them and how it looks on the inside ( I know, it should be simple ). This week I will push to complete the headlights and other parts of the car as well.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car Nice model so far! But I think you used way too many vertices for the lamps! Around 12 for each circle would be enough, I think.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car The headlights are almost finished. I found a few more reference photos showing, somewhat, how they look. - - - Updated - - - Thank you. I was going to see if I could reduce the vertices without losing much noticeable quality of the model in-game. I'll try it. - - - Updated - - - You don't have to worry about that. I even have a nice snow day today, possibly for even a few days, I can get a lot done with the time away from school.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car *UPDATE* ( 1/17/14 ) Hello Everyone! It's Monday again, time for another update on my progress. I put a lot more work and time into the model last week. In fact, last week my work on the model totaled nearly 15 hours! ( and about 14-14 1/2 hours in blender ) I know there are people out there who can use the time that I did and get much more done, but I am still very satisfied with the amount of work I have accomplished. Here are some pictures. ( Verts: 7588; Faces: 4430; Tris: 9028 ) Here is the wire-frame : The majority of the work that I did was getting the smaller details of the car. After this I only have 3 areas to model and the rear-view mirrors to clean up before I can begin work on the chassis! The model is coming up rough in a few areas and I am working on finding a way to correct these, if I can. The tail and head lights are fully modeled excluding the bulbs inside of them. With this in mind, The only method I can think of to cleanly model the bulbs is to create a sphere in object mode and to use a decimate modifier. I do not want to do this because, up to this point, the model is one unified object that I want to separate later, and if I use the decimate modifier it will effect the entire model. If anyone has any suggestions to help me, may you please tell me? Finally, how do you like the new way I uploaded the wireframe this time? If you prefer it this way I will continue to do it in this manner. If you like the way it was in the previous update, I will revert to doing that.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car ( UPDATE! ) Nice to see an update! Looks good so far, but it looks like you tend to use very much polys in small areas. You could sure delete some edge loops in the mirrors! Also the area under the door has a pretty high amount of polygons.
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car ( UPDATE! ) Thank you, it took a lot of work. I do plan on reducing the amount of polys for the rear-view mirrors, maybe even remodel them altogether. As for under the door, there is a curve on the body that I modeled, it's not just flat. Here is an image showing what I mean:
Re: BMW E46 M3 GTR Road/Race car ( UPDATE! ) Definitely mirrors could use a diet, as well as the side door moulding strip...looks like a lot of polys, (from what I can see) but I think you could get away with those only being 3 or 4 sided, as its something that will not be so noticeable in game. Also maybe make those strips detachable in a crash, make the beam for them more rigid slightly than the beams its attached to, so the door bends and the molding pops off like IRL. (and yes I know your far from jbeam but just an idea for future reference) This ish looks amazing bud, definitely a nice go at it, being slightly n00b to blender (AFAIK) keep it up!! love the fact you update so regularly, and also have nothing but nice things to say, and kindly replies. Very respectable - - - Updated - - - OHH also, the way you last presented the wire frames is MUCH better, we can really see the poly definition...when it was a quad-screenshot, the polys and lines all blended into eachother, like the mirror and such. Much better now. - - - Updated - - - OHH OHH ALSO!! I noticed on the front fender extension, where you extruded off from the car to form them, theres a bunch of polys coming from what appears to be the crease in the side of the car...ill take a screenie to highlight what I think should be trimmed and made into probably one or 2 polys. just will neaten up the wireframe. - - - Updated - - - BLUE: Lose some polys here YELLOW: the line on the car I referred to RED: the extruded line from the yellow line that should be consolidated GREEN: the side strip I mentioned. that's a lot of polys, you can save some here as well. 3 or 4 sided? just some helpful tips from someone who never completed a project, but read TONS and watched TONS and TONS of tutorials, your doing great work here !! - - - Updated - - - uh oh, 1 post away from 200!!! go me lol
