daily reminder that OSX is only 3% of all steam users and that 75% of them are on macbooks and that an even smaller portion of them have the latest and greatest discrete radeon gpus that can actually run beamng appreciably well
work like graphic design and video production, both of which actually benefit a lot from high end GPUs, and which nothing other than the mac pro accomplishes without hardcore thermal throttling
I have been able to run BeamNG on PC with an old AMD Athlon II at a decent frame rate. That being said it was grid-map small pure on lowest setting. Also I run BeamNG on a dual core I5 and Intel HD graphics 620 at high graphics settings at around 20-35 fps. If someone ran it on a Windows 10 virtual box it could work.
But then the performance would be even worse. The only way to remedy this, would be to do a GPU passthrough, but that requires having a dedicated GPU to go in pair with another one, so one of them would be used for the actual OS & the other would be for the virtualized one
BS even if macs had top of the line gpus, their os keeps them from using the parts full potential and their cooling is the worst of any pc... sure an intel xeon is good but if its thermal throttling always its a waste of everything... FUCK APPLE
With highest graphics, ssao and dynamic reflections enabled. 0.8 roughly 129fps 0.16 148fps or there abouts 0.15 is same as 0.16 in that spot: At town difference might be quite bit bigger.
I wanted to try Italy in 0.8, but from some reason is not showing up in level selection, even that it shows up on mods, some other maps are same, so there must be something that has changed since then In 0.13 Italy runs almost 20fps higher framerate than in 0.16, but then again there are no single building or other actual objects on whole map (except stone fences), so if it could load all items, it would probably run really poorly: Just imagine how much more stuff there is and it is still just 20fps higher fps in 0.13 without all that stuff, I doubt Italy would run even at 20fps if game could actually load that map properly. Still, it is no change to fps if I turn reflections or ssao off because CPU is having so hard time. I think that I might have 0.9 someplace and 0.11 too, but probably on other disc that is not connected right now.
the combination of screen quality and hardware is actually quite reasonable for the price, if they had adequate cooling nothing's preventing you from installing windows if you don't like OSX the ONLY possible argument for their existence is creative professionals
They are indeed nice machines but like a lot of people say their cooling is horrible! Sometimes I doubt that they even have cooling.
I've played Terraria on mac and it preformed pretty good, but I guess Beamng is more for a computer to handle. --- Post updated --- Dunno
yeah, you have a point --- Post updated --- Also, I play Beamng on a windows surface, and it preforms pretty horrible. I guess I just game on computers that are based for work.
macs work as well as they do because the hardware team works together with the software team so they can optiize the OS to work well even on, comparably, lower raw power hardware. for example try to take online a 2009 imac (one of the first that didn't have power pc architecture) and a similarly price computer if the time: the both are sluggish but the imac bogs down and has a hard time not being choppy even when looking at the finder, with nothing else running
Not just a "little bit". I built my pc just so i could play beamng beacuse i used to game on an crappy family PC from 2007.
