There is some free software called materialize that I use to generate aos, etc.

I love Materialize! I basically stopped about 90% of my texture downloading after I first discovered it. I still can't believe it's free. It's an incredible little program.
Also after a short break from my map making, I came to it with a fresh head and somehow ran into a solution to my problem. So, as of now I am fully able to work on my map, and It feels great to finally have all the tools I need. Now all I have to do is roads. So many roads...lol.
Currently working on adding a custom HDRI as a cube map. It's amazing what a short break can do for you when you run into walls! ;)

My advice is to smooth the roads using Photoshop or GIMP. It's so much quicker than by hand.

There is a bit of a trick to it though. It also means you need a map of where your roads are going before you have laid them.
