There are some community made UVs.

 

You can skin the second gen Pessima.
You just don't use UV maps like normal. I'd link files and all for it but I'm on my mac. Just look at the "Bloodfeather" Pessima in my config pack and look at the materials file. You'll see how it works. If you still don't understand say so and I'll respond when I'm at my pc.
