This here is a general discussion about, you guessed it, anime. The beautiful world of Titans, Alchemists, Notebooks, Demonic Butlers, plenty of bad guys, plenty of humor, plenty of feels, and, most of all, generally everything. This is a place to discuss anime/ discuss your favorite anime. Manga can also be talked about, if you would like. RULES:
    1. No fighting. If someone likes an anime that you do not, even if you hate it, please respect their opinion.
    2. No Hentai. That should be generally established.
    3. You can post pictures, if you would like, but as I stated before, No hentai, no excessive gore (AOT type gore is ok, no gore-porn), and please nothing offensive in general.
    4. Respect each other, please, I beg you.
    5. Have fun!

Pretty sure we've had a few of these now.

Eh. Oh well. I've watched so much stuff that I dont care to remember it all right now, I've also watched very little versus a true anime fan.

I didn't see any threads for discussing anime in general, I did see one about anime, but it didn't look like a talk-to-each-other sort of topic. I want this to be a nice topic for people to discuss what they like, and why they like it, and voice their opinions on different anime, and to talk about upcoming events, like AOT season 2!
    Who else is excited?

Me. And I think the other thread was meant to be a general discussion like here, its just been lost to the abyss.

But yeah. Attack On Titan to me was an enjoyable series, except the english dub which was just, well, it reinforces my point that dubs suck very very well.

Oh and pokemon most certainly does classify as an anime. It is a japanese animation is it not? It became popular with western kids in dubbed format, but it is still definitely anime.

But there is so much out there that those poll results, nah, cant choose from them :p

I watched the Inital D movie on YouTube.

I know everything about anime now. I also saw an episode of Pokemon a long time ago.

    Exactly the same here.

I don't really understand the attraction to anime, as far as I'm concerned it's just animated Japanese TV shows. Aren't there a lot of other good TV shows?

The Japanese have a certain... Way with stories, if you will. I mean, honestly, let's face it. We've never cried (Or felt any REALLY strong emotions) at many American shows, I mean, there's Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, but those are the only ones I can think of, and let's face it, you know when the Chimera (That Chimera, Big Brother, remember? ;)) Got Hmm'd By Hmm's Hmm on his arm, you can't tell me you didn't cry, at least a little bit. And while there are other great Television Shows, anime always has a way with bringing you in, and making you feel things.

My dad got me into it. My favorite one (so far) is this. It was a manga series that was turned into a tv show.

I honestly don't see what's so wrong with English dubs. Sure, the Japanese version is better, but I watched FMA in English, it wasn't so bad. Buuuuuut, then again, AOT's English dub was horrid, I just watched it. Also, (Sorry, trying to start new discussion topics), who else thinks FMA:B is better than FMA? Please tell me I'm not the only one. They are both beautifully made, beautifully illustrated, and, most of all, beautifully written. Also, if you could send me some suggestions for anime to put into the Poll, I would appreciate that :)

I've never personally heard of that one. I'll have to check it out. Thanks :)

Well this is why I dont like to call myself an Anime fan.
I like some Japanese anime, I like some western cartoons, I like some live action TV shows, I like some films. Its all the same.

As far as I am concerned. Books, TV, films and many games exist for one purpose. To tell a story. Whether that story is told via animation in either the western or japanese styles or via actors infront of a camera or an interactive experience in a videogame you still come back to storytelling.

As far as I am concerned though, there is something about how the japanese manage to piece things together that is quite enticing.

There is of course the overly sexualised stuff (and I'm not even touching on hentai here), Elfen Lied for example did not remotely require lucy to be stark naked throughout the opening sequence and some of Nyus actions are even more debatable for how necessary they are to the plot, infact all the bits I am thinking of in particular only really show Nyu's naivety which could have easily been displayed in alternate ways. But then Game Of Thrones doesnt have to show as much nudity as it does either so its not a trait limited to the japanese, although it is alot more widespread.

How many anime threads have we had by now? Must be quite a few.

My answer is still "none" though. Never seen the appeal behind it.

For which I think you should see my above post.

Its just another way to tell a story. Nothing unique to it.

I enjoyed watching Attack on Titan, but I never got to finish it and I don't keep track of it. I also watched a bit of Initial D a while back on Netflix. I don't watch anime all that often, and I don't personally understand the appeal of it.
