Olds did sell a police package to my knowledge, however the only real evidence of that is a coupe ads and spec sheets. (these ones being from 1950s and 1960s), So probably most of the cars afterwards were probably just regular civilian spec cars bought under fleet sales and up-fitted by the department themselves. --- Post updated --- I believe their based on an old legend if you will, about a bunch of specially made Buick Grand Nationals that were sold to the FBI in the 80s According to stories told about the FBI Grand National, GM Racing Program Manager Ray Smith was part of Buick Special Products Engineering which was responsible for total development of all Buick Specialty Vehicles, including: Grand National Regal, the 1981 and 1983 Indy pace cars, the Buick Wildcat in 1986, and (80) special Turbo Regals for the FBI. Around 1986/1987, they were contacted by the FBI who were tired of losing the bad guys in car chases. Buick reportedly took the speed chip out of the Grand National to allow it to run in excess of 140 MPH. What makes the story interesting is that someone reportedly purchased one of these new FBI GN’s from a dealership in Missouri. Buddy Mitchell was at Phil Beck Motors Inc in Troy Missouri and purchased a new 1987 Buick Grand National. This GN was a bitter different than most though and had a 145 MPH speedometer and a white pinstripe. The vehicle supposedly had a number (GN/132) on the decklid (trunk) in white vinyl suggesting that it was some sort of fleet vehicle. Buddy began making phone calls to see what he could find out about the car and was told that the FBI “may have” ordered some GN’s from buick and didn’t pick them all up. Those not purchased by the FBI found their way to dealers that then sold the cars. Supposedly a Buick dealer outside of Washington DC received (22) Grand Nationals that were leased to the FBI for a year. These GN’s had a Buick Stage 1 chip that removed the electronic governor and allowed the cars to reach higher speeds. The dealerships employees took the cars to a lot in the D.C. metro area and dropped them off to eventually be picked up by the FBI According to the book by Dennis Kirban titled “Kirban’s Guide to 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals” it states on page 271 that it is hard to prove that some were built for government agencies since they were titled by major car rental companies back then so they couldn’t be traced back to a government agency. On page 272 it states Roy Cavan who was a FBI agent recalls his division in Cleveland, Ohio taking delivery of two 1986 Regal T-types in June 1986. The one he was assigned was deep metallic blue with matching blue interior. What made it unusual was it had a column shifter, bench seats and crank windows. There was a shotgun rack mounted in the ceiling just behind the front seats. Mr, Cavan’s understanding is that during 1986-1987 the FBI took delivery of approximately 80 Turbo Regals in various colors. His assigned Regal stayed in service until fall 1988 when it had about 125,000 miles on it. It was sold soon after at a GSA auction for under $3,000. On page 274 Mr. Kirban recollects seeing one of the ex-FBI Turbo-T’s – this one was an 1987 painted dark brown metallic with tan cloth interior. In the headliner was some sort of special sewn-in compartment for concealing a weapon.\ Oh and supposedly the DEA might have purchased them as well to chase drug dealers between Miami and New York. not sure about the black one but the blue one is on finnish plates so its likely just trying to imitate a cop car
Seems like the last official "Police Apprehender" package for the Delta 88 was in 1979, outside the scope of this mod So most likely they were all custom ordered and there was no unified police package. I will make configs based on the parts from the older models then. --- Post updated --- The people who complained there were not enough stock factory configs can rest now. I intentionally omitted a few options, namely the Royale Brougham versions with 3-speed transmissions. Realistically not many people would buy those, if they are going for a top trim luxury spec then why not get the better transmission as well. For the same reason I omitted the Diesel Royale Brougham LS, it didn't get many sales irl either way. I didn't include them because I'm worried about config spam, remember that these are only the sedan options, it will also need the coupe, holiday coupe and wagon, + the custom configs. There will easily be over 100 configs per car even without the ones I didn't include and even after removing all the really similar duplicates the original mod is full of. All the configs have accurate weights to real life, the engine specs are also roughly the same, but they don't compare to any exact factory numbers as those varied A LOT during the 5 years of production, the values we have are roughly estimated average values that should be good enough. Now before tackling the other body styles I would prefer getting some non-stock parts in game and the custom configs, while waiting for Sergent Fido to send the updated textures, so then I can rework the skin UV on this body and all the skins, so I don't have to redo the whole process later with the other bodies.
im thinking now a optioned out "fleet model" config could be made up with some specs such as hd suspension and a 305/350 but everything else as basic as possible --- Post updated --- another thing ive found: apparently olds sold on a few models a sunroof option thats EXTREMELY rare as shown here eBay Find: 1981 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham Diesel – Those Brown Diesel Wagons Are So Yesterday | Curbside Classic --- Post updated --- also recall reading earlier olds diesels used diff injectors and got more power but less mileage. i recall somewhere around 220 ft lbs and 120-110 or so hp
Fleet config is a good idea, but the sunroof would be too much work to add considering the scope the mod already has, and I won't be adding any more fancy engine things. We already have way more engine options and customization than vanilla cars. 9 engines, 8 long blocks, 6 headers, 10 intakes, 4 ECUs, 17 engine color options, removable aircon pulley, EGR valve, catalytic converters and engine fan... It would be too much work to make different variants of the engines depending on the year while keeping everything else working.
also have you tried just editing the config .pc files in notepad for some such as race variants etc that wont neccesarily be replaced?
I have done WAY too many changes to the slots system and naming to make it less confusing and easier to work on, that it will never work so easily. Plus a lot of custom configs need to be redone anyway due to being unrealistic. Especially the race version.
So now that I have a job I will be only able to work on this on weekends, and today I managed to get some good progress. The first thing I did was reworking the police push bars so they don't get stuck in cars anymore, and I'm happy with the results, you can do a lot of damage without getting stuck now. And later I added some new police parts such as red flashing spotlights and interior partition. Next thing to do will be fixing the issues with the light bars, I don't think I will be reworking them completely because a lot of other things reuse their materials and that would either break them or force me to duplicate assets. But maybe I can improve some things in them using vanilla assets.
I could maybe do an early demo release when 1 of the cars is done, remember that the whole mod has 3 cars though, they share many assets so it would be maybe half of all work with the Delta 88 done.
noteable that realistically the bullbars would tie into the frame itself instead of the bumpers, if thats not already done
I kept the attachment the same as originally, stronger to the frame and weaker to the bumper. If they are not actually bolted to the bumper irl then I can use support beams instead.
Thats my biggest gripe with the mod that it would always get stuck to other cars. However, it was helpful if you were chasing "bad guys."
Your job is working at beamng, wow! But I still don’t understand why you don’t have time to work on a beamng mod while you are working at beamng Hope you get paid well!
