After all the talk of downforce I had a drive with and without the rear wing and front bumper thingy and the difference is amazing. It feels fantastic to drive at high speed :)

I re-downloaded everything and got the same results. The only other explanation is whether my graphics settings are causing the materials to go funny. Here's how the car looks without any changes:
    screenshot_00094.png screenshot_00095.png
here's what appears to not be right
    • Bump map of the Jagermeister livery is on the paint material
    • No reflection of the paint (unless that's done on purpose)
    • wheels are black and have no reflection
Anyways, I edited the materials.cs file and it now looks like this
    screenshot_00096.png screenshot_00097.png

If you encounter this same problem, I've attached the edited materials.cs file which should hopefully fix it.

I have those issues too. The J├Ągermeister logo on the hood like in the previous post and the J├Ągermeister Font here:

Also the seem on the rear panel is visible. It should be an easy fix though:

Hmm I thought I fixed the normal map issue... Bakasan, the car has cube map, probably your map there doesn't? I'll fix those asap, that'll be next week though, I'm not home atm. Thanks for reporting! :)

This thing is awesome. It's also a total beast, and as such is hard to control. I have to be really careful accelerating at low speeds or it decides to kill me. Thank you so much!

There's a spelling error on the doors - it's not Montagetechink - it's Montagetechnik  Other than that the car is awesome :D

on the race update version of the game? we apparently have a mix of people playing on the new update, and it's getting confusing for me.

the car handles very different with/without aerodynamic parts but whatever aerodynamics are effecting the car feel fake to me. lose grip at high speed (as per usual) and the aero tries to correct your direction (directional stability like i talked about previously), but in a really weird way... like not at all what i would expect. on version beamng 0.3.0.5, that is...

the car is modeled and jbeamed extroardinarily well, but the physics to it just feel weird when trying to really put down a fast lapime. of course i've not driven a car quite like this before in the game. usually the 'fast' cars are all-wheel-drive to make them sort of manageable (i.e, drifting around every corner and not sliding off track). this car being rear wheel drive really makes it a tough cookie to drive competitively (and this contributes largely to how it drives in combination with the arrodynamics) i'll try to put out a video soon so i'm not just blowing hot air... would love to see some others try to put down some videos of driving fast instead of just crash videos so i can try to more eloquently describe its behavior.

Have you, like, at all considered that you've never actually driven a 500hp, 900kg car from the 80's with aerodynamics before, most likely not any car at all that uses REAL aerodynamics(not just a silly wing on the neighbours Honda/Impreza), and that the person who wrote the aerodynamics knows a lot more about it than you and me combined?

There's HUGE big vertical uprights holding the bigass rear wing up... It works the same exact way as the rudder on an airplane, except it's not wingshaped so definitely not as immensely as on a plane, but even then... You really think that wouldn't try to correct your direction in real life too? Really?

Sure, it's not perfect, but you're trying to make people believe the aerodynamics are faked and bad... Seriously dude? Come on... You ARE blowing hot air regardless of a video or not. There's litterally been a team of testers, who've driven a hell of a lot of fast cars all combined, testing this car for the last few months, and here you are... The only one claiming that the aerodynamics are wrong and fake...
I might just start to ignore your input all together. It's annoying me.

edit: i will bypass the obvious route of asking: "have you or jallku ever driven a 500hp, 800kg car from the 80's?" and ignore the idea that estama knows there are faults with the aerodynamics, an idea you seem to reject blindly... they do work well.

you can think whatever you want. there is an ignore list for a reason. but before you put me on it, consider a few points:

    1) im the only person putting out consistent video proof that i can actually drive decently well in this game
    2) im the only one who ever has anything negative to say no matter how nicely or constructively i try to put it
    3) i'm willing to put in time and effort to demonstrate my points when applicable

im not just shitting out complaints, and it's an alpha game for a reason. the faults are in the physics engine version that im stuck on. not the modelers or testers. you're the one annoying me by whining in response to my feedback every. single. time.

im so sorry that you're upset, i'll be sure to wipe my tears at the top of the leaderboards when the race update comes out.

i would really rather a mod delete your post and this one so this thread doesnt go off topic. and my original one if necessary; i still want my question towards hutch answered though.

edit once more now that i'm on a real keyboard, though you probably won't see this because it won't bump the thread:

well, when i see comments like this in the jbeam files:

    (imported from here)

it kind of makes me think that you modders are doing whatever you can to make a car feel just a little bit better. sometimes, it feels like you lose sight of realism and cater to the keyboard-driving majority here. if the car doesn't spin out in the first corner, they'll be happy after all.

when this 500hp 800kg race car tops out at 140mph and has gigantic drag coefficients then yeah i think i'm allowed to say something feels fake or unrealistic every once in a while. maybe some day racecar drivers will use beamng to train for races, but today is not that day.

I don't get the bashing on the aerodynamics at all, as far as i know so is this the only game i have played which truly emulates it (and not scripting it all like they do on forza and GT).

Great work on the car, it's the first car i have been able to drive decently fast with without going off track in the first corner. i love it and keep up the good work! :p

No, we have not ever driven cars like this, as far as I know anyway, Dkutch has driven some reasonably powerful cars afaik though. Estama knows there are issues, yes. He's also a friggin genius at making these kinds of things, so the aero is at least reasonably correct.

I'll just ignore your "I'm a better driver hurr dur and the only one who gives feedback with proof" argument. Makes no sense to me, and I don't want to clutter the thread with another overly lenghty post.

    Moving on:
If you had read the credits you'd know that we work together, dkutch, me, Jalkku, the other guys. We send files back and forth, check them over 5 times each, tweak where we think needs tweaking. We sometimes write comments like that when 1 person knows more than another. Dkutch is way better at tuning tires than me, so he'll sometimes put in comments, that I and/or Jalkku may or may not see at all.
Yes, we do sometimes do whatever we can to make a car feel better, in other words, more realistic. We do not cater to the keyboard people ever when it comes to racecars, otherwise we would've made sure the automatic modes on all these cars worked...

If you had read Estamas post on the aerodynamics, you'd realise the aerodynamic drag values in BeamNg are supposed to be put in at something like x100 what they are in real life, Having 200 on a wing would be somewhat realistic. I know they're 400 on the wing of the Capri. The diffuser doesn't do a whole lot even at 580 drag, due to the imperfection of BeamNG's aero.
At some point in development, we had wings with more realistic values... You can test this for yourself, but if you lower ALL the aerodynamics to realistic levels(ie the wings, bumper, and diffuser down by 300 or so), you'll see that it's pretty much impossible to get to peak power ever and keeping in control on a track... You get to about 6-7000rpm and it'll start to twist in a way a real car wouldn't do. The uprights in the wing btw, are at very low levels of drag, much lower than real life... Even with with realistic aero values, it'll still attempt to go straight.

Also, the real car has a 170mph top speed. Definitely nowhere near as far off as you're making it out to be... Especially when you consider there are absolutely NO torque curves or gear ratios available online for these cars, and due to BeamNG tires nature(which are VERY hard to tune), it does need more aero to be as driveable as a real car like this would be, so yeah, slower... If they were really as undrivable irl as they are in BeamNG without the excessive aero, they would only have like 350-400 hp... With the 580 hp engine and no aero, you really can't ever use all of it, which would just make the engine more unreliable for no reason in real racing...
I'd love to see you get a better result with more realistic aero values though. Please, do try. I very much doubt you can improve on Dkutch's suspension at all though...

At first I'd like to state that I never use keyboard while developing anything. I usually drive with wheel and sometimes with game pad. One should never judge car's handling based on keyboard driving experience. The car handles as close to real one as it can according to real life video reference, its geometry, performance and weight. Feel free to modify it to suit you the best but according to majority of the feedback people are happy how it handles. Believe me when I say that me, mythbuster and dkutch are very keen on realism. Now please continue the thread without stupid arguments.

Ps. It's Jalkku if you don't mind.

Edit: I read some more of your posts above and to me it just seems that you can't drive a car that isn't awd in this game? There's a few videos out there of people driving this car rather well so your arguments are invalid.
You just lose more and more respect in my eyes on every "I'm the best driver in beamng" statement you make.

I honestly think deject3d is a teenage troll now. Everything any of us say or shows goes in one ear and out the other.

Since when does an experienced video game players opinion overrule any real life experiences or knowledge? Honestly, go make your own mods and stop using mine/jalkkus/mythbusters.

Maybe this is why these forums are a joke 80% of the time. Self proclaimed experts that use video games as proof/reason to think you should be taken seriously. You, sir, are making it very easy to not give a shit about modding...

Well personally, I think that this is a great car, and I don't really see any problems with its authenticity as a vehicle in game compared to real life. I hugely respect what Jalkku, dkutch, Mythbuster, and all the other quality content creators do for the community, as well as for the game. As for realism, you are never going to get 100% perfect real life physics in a game, because it is just that; a game. But these guys strive to put in as much into their content as possible, and it truly shows. And for that, i tip my hat to them. As for "the best driver in beamng evar", it seems like your keyboard is just constantly spouting diarrhea, you should get that checked out.
