Beautiful scenery and super fun drive! I'm from the area, so I can appreciate. I was young, but I remember hearing crazy stories about bikers daring this road. I can definitely see where safety was an issue!

Yep still works. Only the bankings (road camber) are really steep and actually make you car-sick. But maybe it´s like that IRL.

Great map. My grandpa rode this recently on his bmw motorcycle, very cool.

It's no Pikes Peak but it sure IS fun, especially on a motorcycle - that is - if the tourists aren't out hamming it up at 20~30mph.
Lots of these roads in Tennessee as Roane County gladly shows you (Roane County is a bit under the weather these days since the graphic format changed again in 0.23, and will be fixed someday soon).
Glad you like this, do turn on the AI with as many cars as you can support and still go 35~45fps (for good control), as it's quite fun to overtake around corners and end up with a Honda Accordion due to a crash from careless driving. Had a ton of fun testing this one and was thankful for someone from the Nevada Interstate thread suggestion it.
If this map ever becomes toast from an update, do rest assured, I will fix it quickly.

I recognise this from when I was a young lad, on holiday in the USA. I stopped off at that petrol station, the vast number of bikers was ridiculous haha. I did not realise it was a well known road. Nice area and a very good recreation the the world of BeamNG.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Thanks! This was made by request after I got Nevada Interstate pretty much finished (less buildings).
This will get updated one day if I have a chance to make new motel models and the parts tree of shame.
Tennessee has a lot of cool roads like this, but careful as many don't have guide rails everywhere.

This map was done by request, and honestly I enjoyed making it just as much if not more than the folks who just want to speed up and down on it.
Well now you can fly up and down The Dragon virtually without causing unwarranted death and destruction - including your own.
Seeing as we're stuck inside with Covid restrictions in many places in the world, there's not much better time than now to enjoy this wonder of the driving world.

The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars, is that it is missing traffic signs, and small other details.

But a great addition to BeamNG, because thanks to this, I learned about this road in the first place, after having driven car sims/games like the last 30 years. Really well done! Thanks!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
When this map was being developed, we didn't really have a good set of road signs (that wouldn't bug out) in the arsenal of map objects. So sorry if it's not quite perfect - but it'll get them one day whenever the map breaks enough to warrant spending time updating it beyond just fixing whatever is broken. Heck I couldn't even make my own models when I made this map. I sure tried hard to use whatever I could find from in-game and other user maps though. It'll be better one day though, I cannot say however when that will be.
--Cheers, and thanks for the honest review and constructive criticism in how it can be improved one day - every bit helps me make a better map.

Thank you so much for this! Always wanted to drive it, but kind of glad I never did it IRL. So much potential for it to end poorly. Fantastic to be able to drive it with no consequences, thanks for your hard work!!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Yes, steep / deep ravines, oncoming vehicles not staying in-lane, random woodland creatures hell-bent on committing suicide via your vehicle, EMS at-least an hour away, blind corners, "lost" commercial trucks abound. There's loads of danger in real life - even before Covid. So do enjoy this virtually, and that way your insurance (and your own body) doesn't get jacked up :)

      Author's Response
I worked over the road surface for a LONG time, giving it many more passes of smoothing VS what most other mappers would do. Considering what fun this road is in real life, I felt it deserved the effort.
Glad you've noticed the extra effort spent!

Another epic Bob mod. This road is a famous biker route, many twists and turns. So much fun to drive, there's even a guy that takes pictures of your car passing by. Thanks for bringing this to beam!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
The fans of my maps and even in other threads DEMANDED this map. So I HAD to make it, plus I thought it'd be fun. It only took a few months compared to the YEARS on the other maps I've made.
I'm glad you enjoyed this map, it's quite fun, and I'll put the models for the stores in one-day when I am down that way & get permissions from the store owners themselves.
--Cheers & Thanks for the review!

Ah yes, Georgia, the place that lies just past the seemingly impenitrable ever-lasting construction of Chattenooga. I've been down there, and while the traffic is hectic, the people are lovely.
Need every bit of reflexes gained in avoiding crashes in BeamNG Drive to survive even an hour on the road in Atlanta though :x Some crazy driving down there!
Glad to know another local has enjoyed this map.

    Another Great Tennessee map!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Who would have ever thought Tennessee had such fun roads to drive on, but oh it has so many. This map is only the tip of the iceberg in what the real world state has to offer. So definitely don't pass up taking the scenic route through Tennessee if you should have the chance to in the future. Make sure to take the kids to Dollywood if you have any, or when you have some. It's a real hoot & the nearby area (not far from this map locale) is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! If you love nature, hiking, lovely people with southern hospitality, and have a sense for adventure, Tennessee has a lot of hidden treasures to offer. That's why I've moved to this state.
      Thank-you for the review.

awesome, awesome map!!! got to drive the dragon a week or so ago and i have to say its extremely accurate. there's a lot of small changes that could be made to really make it perfect but its really close. its also been a detrimental tool to help me learn the road and practice my lane discipline. thanks so much for this awesome map!!!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Awesome, glad to hear you love it - and welcome to the wonderful but oft-overlooked little slice of 'Murica called Tennessee, where freedom still rings more than many other more oppressive states.
That road is a whole-lot of fun, I can't even remember who goaded me into doing that one, but whoever it was - I say thanks to them too. I really enjoyed testing it, so much so, that it would have probably taken 5% less time to build if I didn't waste so much time while building it actually playing the thing. It's a hoot! I wish it looked even better, but as of a year or two when it came out, this is the best I could do at the moment.
IT WILL HAVE CUSTOM BUILDING MODELS ONE DAY! When I get there, I just happen to have a LOT on my plate at the moment with working on my 'Los Injurus' city map (search for it, it's under forums>maps or something like that) that I am working on.
Yes, it will even have the tree of shame & proper store buildings.
So do enjoy, and if I am not mistaken, I think someone made a bootleg conversion of this map over to GTAV (I said I didn't mind, but that there were copyright textures from BeamNG in the terrain/trees/some buildings, so they'd have to replace those, if they were to go through with it).
So very glad you enjoyed this - if you enjoyed it as much as I did testing it out, then you had a hoot. It should be great for AI chases if you put the lane minder on (even if not), an i7 4.4ghz 4790k can/could do like 11 vehicles including your own and stay around 30fps or higher, with no reflections (IIRC) using an RX 480 8gb video board, so do try that! Turn shadows off if you have a slow CPU, turn off reflections and SSAO if you need extra FPS and have a non-high-end GPU.
Nothing wrong with loving this map, but just don't get killed on the real thing. There's too many fun roads to enjoy driving around here to get wrapped up, and waste it all over one tree/cliff/wall/oncoming vehicle etc.
      --Cheers!

Thank you so much. I've never been on the Dragon itself, but I do live in NC and I've been on the Blue Ridge Parkway a few times.
Are you going to put the "Tree of Shame" in there?
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Thanks! Glad you like the map. It's fun in real life but don't go out of lane IRL.
The tree of shame will eventually make it's way into the game in time. I don't have time right yet for it but this map will get an overhaul sometime over the course of the next year. I can't pin it down more than that but, just know the map is not abandoned.

      Author's Response
Yes, in a day and age where most other things anywhere-close-to-this-fun have been long since outlawed, we have one bit of solace around here, and it's these fun back roads. Do enjoy, and know that if you come to Tennessee, there's much beautiful wilderness infested with trees just like this road, and many other fun roads like this one.
Tennessee, where driving doesn't have to be a chore. Just make sure to come in the summer months and not in the winter when we get the 3-day ice storms!

    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
      Ah, many thanks buddy.
Roane County is good for endless cruising, and is the largest map available for this game currently.
Nevada Interstate was my first map and is great for it's looping 12-miles of bi-directional interstate winding in and out of what looks like the Rocky Mountains/Black Hills (Because it used to be Black Hills!).
So-Cal Interstate (while it's a bit laggy, and old) still works and is quite a bit of the same fun as Nevada was, as it entirely intends to be the sequel to the first. This has over 40-something miles of unique, hand-designed interstates/highways of all kinds and many many other dozens of miles of surface routes. Most of the mountains function as impromptu jumps, too. There's even a select few off-roading trails - and lots and lots of cliffs! A certain Coyote would feel quite at home here.
Tail of The Dragon (this map) is of course what seems like a 'never ending twisting snake-like roadway with smoothly banked corners and a forest of trees (because it is a snake-like road through a state forest, which is why it's fun!). This map was originally done by request, but I forgot who requested it. Oops! It's okay, I enjoy playing this more than I did making it. More side-routes may be added one day.
Roane County progress is on-going, slowly, but still under heavy WiP.

      --Thanks for writing in!
