1969 Iskra Maestrale Super 999 1.0

A compact 100-horsepower Italian pocket-rocket.

  1. Secrane
The Iskra Maestrale is a compact city car designed and manufactured by Iskra between 1954 - 76. As Iskra was purchased by Di Inferi in 1968, production continued but with high-performance models handled by Di Inferi.

    Synopsis
As a post-war startup manufacturer, Iskra had been struggling to finance its high-performance models. A decision was made to design and produce a baseline compact city car which would be both cheap to produce and sell, which would provide funding for the higher-end models. This resulted in the Maestrale, and it proved a huge success. Though profit margins were relatively tight, the car almost single-handedly financed Iskra for over twenty years.

    Specifics
The Maestrale remained relatively unchanged throughout most of its lifespan. While engines and options did change, the car itself remained similar. In 1968, Iskra was purchased by Di Inferi. Though Iskra had mostly stayed away from racing the Maestrale, Di Inferi was more than happy to enter the compact into multiple racing categories.

Over time the Di Inferi ownership spawned several hardcore Maestrale models most often under the "Super" moniker. One of the most notable Super models was the S999 (Super 999), which saw production between 1969 - 1974.

This model saw an enormously increased power output totaling 100 horsepower, a significantly widened stance with flared arches and a 5-speed manual transmission. Its low weight and extreme agility made it a favored competitor in technical courses. Whilst larger, heavier cars had to slow down through difficult sections and sharp turns, the S999 could use its short wheelbase and subsequent agility to its advantage. A major factor was just that - the ability to keep speed up without having to slow down as much.

    --------------------

This is probably one of my favorite cars I've made, and it's a ton of fun in BeamNG. Be careful on the throttle through corners, as it is very rear-heavy. Have fun, enjoy!
