I wonder why they still have Gavril wheels and no front license plate for the park ranger Hopper?
Even the Crawler has front and rear plates and why would park rangers put different rims on it?? These are not private owned vehicles you can customize how you want.
This is how it looks like with Hopper wheels and front plate, way better IMO

 

the way I see it, the choice is less so for aesthetics, and more for "using what you have". I'd imagine the JRI police department have limited resources, so they just pulled a set of wheels and tires off some D-series and put them on their hopper.

 

If anything the park ranger hopper is a Utah unit as said map has the ranger station.

 

It could be meant for any US map, not just one.

 

I found a texture issue with the roll bar padding. Has anyone else noticed this?

I just want to say its surprisingly hard to get both the Hopper and the Roamer to rollover. SUVs/Jeeps of the era where infamous for having constant rollovers in sharp turns/braking maneuvers.

 

Does the Hopper & Roamer have the same suspension as Jeeps & SUVs of that time? If not, then that probably explains the lack of easy rollovers

 

Yeah, IIRC putting a dummy in it makes it a lot more rollover-prone (the hopper), especially since they are quite heavy.

 

Technically speaking, yes they do-- You just have to know where to look. To expand, the Roamer is loosely based on the late 90s Ford Expedition, and later 90s Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban. Both of those vehicles had the same exact front suspension setup as their pickup truck siblings did, and that can be seen with the Roamer and D-Series. However, the rear suspension setup of the real-life counterparts can vary.

As for the suspension on the Hopper, yes. It is almost exactly identical in setup as the late 90s Jeep Wrangler.

One big factor of these rollovers were the tires of the day. And one thing that the Devs are still working on is the tire friction, which currently is still very "grabby" if you will.

 

Plus, the standard tires are just "standard", there's no differentiation beetween old and new tires, apart from very old one like the Bias Plys.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "more grabby" tires should cause more rollovers? A rollover happens when for some reason the center of mass of a vehicle moves outside of the wheelbase (forgive my simplified and half-scientific explanation, I don't want to get too in-depth).

If the car slides because of low friction, a rollover cannot happen, since the center of mass remains above the wheelbase. (the car won't "tilt" but slide instead, so it won't roll over)
The engineers usually design cars and SUVs to behave this way, so traction will break before a rollover would happen, since it's better to crash into a barrier due to understeer/oversteer, than to crash into a barrier while also upside-down. (Again-simplified... And lorries are an exception)

As far as my experience goes, off-roaders aren't as unstable as some people think. My experience is not with 80's-90's Jeeps and pickups, but more modern ones, and off course, off-roaders are much less stable than regular cars. But they are still required to pass safety tests and inspections, and there are still engineers planning them. As long as it's not modified too far from it's OEM suspension and tire setup (mostly ride height but also some other parameters), and you are not driving in a totally ridiculous manner (or in extreme off-road situations), the car should not just randomly roll over. Even in rather tight cornering and braking, it would slide instead. (again, my experience speaks here, but other people might have different experiences)

I wouldn't call it a bump if it is on a thread that is official or was pinned by the moderators.

 

Now that we have an official paddle tire I'd really love to see paddle tires for the crawlers. While a proper formula off road rig would be another custom tube frame (which I imagine the team is probably sick of after giving us 3 in one update), we could at least approximate that gameplay using the existing caged/tube frame off roaders. It's such a unique form of motorsport which to my knowledge has never been represented in any game before, and a great way to show off the water physics alongside the Wydra.

For those who don't know: Formula Off Road is a pretty crazy off road class which is more of a thing in Nordic countries but can be found in North America. They are mostly your standard high performance tube frame off-roaders but equipped with paddle tires, which allows them to skip over water (see the video below)

 

if this thing ever gets a remaster, then i think they should make it more japanese. What do i mean? currently we have very clearly Jeep/amc large engines that are supposedly 'japanese' because of the country of origin of this car. at least some engine modelled after japanese ones like 22R or Z20/Z24 engines. It's stupid to bring up, yeah, but still, it think it would only make sense, because otherwise it seems like a last-minute name-change.
