Why were real cars allowed on the old ROR repo but not on beam? And why are real cars allowed on the forums but not the repo?

If you think about it for a moment, you'll realize that Rigs of Rods is a free game, whereas BeamNG is a paid game on Steam and Humble Bundle. If I remember correctly, that difference is probably the reason why the BeamNG repository does not allow copyrighted names such as real-world marques. This does not apply to Automation mods though, where it has its own section and guidelines on the repository.

However, at one point, the BeamNG repository used to allow real-world vehicle mods when it was first created on October 2015. It was until July 2016 when the staff members decided to pull the plug on that idea due to potential legal issues. Since then, real-world vehicle mods are restricted to only the forums. One example of such mod that was at one point made available on the repo in that regard was Nadeox1's Ford Crown Victoria.

hmm ok. maybe the devs could jump through a loophole or something with maybe a free dlc that allows real cars.

That's not how it works, if they put anything copyrighted in the game they could be sued and the repo is part of the game, I know a few modders have had legal problems in the past because they included copyrighted stuff in their mods

...or you could just do the simple task of downloading a file and then dragging it into documents/BeamNG.drive/mods

no. hard to explain. i am using my own pc and when you use geforce you connect to a vm/pc and cannot go to google or explorer.exe. you can only use steam or epic games launcher depending on which game you load.
