Update Speculation thread

What about the Corvair? It would be an interesting addition. It was air cooled, had a flat 6, 4 corner IRS.... We also have no swing axles to my knowledge, so it would be a good demonstration of the game’s physics.

Yes I know the Pessima kind of fits in this category, but how about a late 90s-mid 00s American midsize car? Something with a big (3.5-4.0) V6 and supercharger options, automatic only, FWD, coupe or sedan. Similar to a Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick Regal, or Dodge Intrepid.

If you think that's what French cars are, you gotta check stuff like Peugeots, Renaults or even Simcas. As interesting as white bread.

That's a lot of various things to mix, and a very broad powertrain range.

The Skodas or Dacias were significantly different from Ladas or FSOs.

Basically the only 600/965 connection was styling. And usually a lot was cheapened during the "communisation" of a car.

The Rolls and Jag were polar opposites - one an old-fashioned cruiser, the other a sleek, all-new sports sedan. Also, pretty much the only difference in those old British saloons' SWB and LWB versions was the wheelbase.

 

We want stereotypes. French cars were weird, very weird, specially on the high end segment of the market. Thats what everyone wants, something based on the stereotypes we have about french cars. Underpowered, floaty, odd looking but incredibly sleek. (See Citroen SM), with horrible reliability.

So? we mix them together to make the communist car to end all communist cars. Rear engine like some Skodas, With the square angles of a Lada, and the reliability of a Trabant, hell, make it an SUV too, like the Niva.

Agreed, however mixing them together and tossing some Rover into the mix should make some interesting cars.

Saying we "never" need another American car is extreme. Like, really extreme. America always has had a huge automotive industry, so there's a lot to chose from and a lot of important niches to consider. Which means it makes sense to have a high proportion of American cars. We don't even have much variety in the American vehicles we do have to be honest. 5/11 of the ones we have are trucks (all but 1 of which are 1990's) with 4 of the remaining ones being medium/large family sedans with 1 malaise era coupe and 1 pony car. Considering how diverse American cars are, that's nothing. No pre-war cars, no classic vans/pickups/SUVs, no mopar muscle, nothing modern at all, no sports cars, no compacts, etc...

I'm not saying we need another American car soon though. Personally I would like to see at least 2 new countries introduced before anything more from the USA. But IMO there's plenty of room for more USA cars after we get a little foreign diversity.

While I'm on the topic of what I want to see, I'm just gonna put a reminder that we really need more drivetrain diversity. It's actively annoying that we have almost nothing weird in terms of drivetrains in a physics simulator. Almost everything we have is a i4, i6, or V8, with only a couple of exceptions. No FWD V8, no Corvair style rear suspension, no unusual engine blocks...

 

I would really love to see an uber luxury car. It doesn’t matter where it’s from or when it was built.

 

When I want stereotypes and only the usual "highlights", I play Forza or even GTA. Beam is supposed to show archetypes as they are.

Ah, the weirdness of a mundane family hatchback.

We're talking about a realistic game, not "I read a few Wikipedia pages about communist cars".

Has anyone that lives in the US visited the sema Atturo tires booth? I saw on twitter that they were having some sort of offroading challenge.

on the topic of the sema booth, I saw in one picture they posted there's a cool visualisation of the new hopper with the body separated from the chassis:

 

Atturo had gameplay of the new hopper on their Instagram story a couple days ago. Forgot to share it as I've been busy with exams, and because it's a story it disappeared after 24hrs

 

The most important american car missing is a mid to high end sportscar thats still somewhat affordable for example a firebird a Corvette or even a viper, id also want to see a prewar us car with a modern and a contemporary hot rod variant... But i mainly want a Japanese high end sports car akin to supra, rx7, nsx... Maybe an older sbr4 or its possible ibishu competitor then

 

To everyone saying pre war cars im telling you, no.
As much as you say you would use it, you wont, and in the long term it would turn into a LeGran, that no one even remembers is in game.

 

But Pre-War Cars Are Biggest Area Still Uncovered!

 

no one would use them, with the exception of the Drag Version. It would be a waste of developer resources to develop a car that is not only hard to model but that no one would use. I still remember they had a hard time making the Burnside, and prewar cars are even worse.

 

How so? A 1930's American car would be the most customizable car in game by FAR and cover loads of mission types/racing disciplines/car culture segments.

 

The burnside shows, its awesome. I do think it would be cool for a pre-war car, but i dont think it is what the game needs right now

 

Well yea, one this is something that would be cool, and a completely different thing is something that the game needs. pre-war cars would be a niche, while the game needs to fill far bigger areas before even considering getting into niches.
