Hi everyone Since I wanted to learn to mod, I started to make a bolide cabriolet, and since I liked it, I decided to make a Covet Rally car, losely inspired on the MG metro 6R4, hence the name R(ally)4(wd)V6(engine)/ The bolide is nearly finished after some material issues and the covet is driveable, but not finished. What do I want to have, and what can you expect: Bolide: No roof, custom tailgate and tailcone, with a matching Jbeam. Covet: widebody parts, V6(thanks @nahuelito007 for the mesh and stuff) in the middle of the car and 4wd. finished: Bolide: Body and cone jbeam, materials and mesh for tailcone and tailgate. Covet: Widebody parts, V6, and the code. Wip: Bolide: Mesh for the body, not al faces show up yet and the jbeam for the tailgate is too wobbly. Covet: engine placement is not 100% right. engine torque curve needs some work, mesh work for transmission and RWD I am planning to make a cutout in the body for the engine and suspension since I aqcuired a nice source for 6R4 things. People to thank: @crashmaster for a good explanation for the jbeam. @FLyInG 2 YoUr SoUL for the awd help. @D-Troxx for his awesome wheel pack which is probably mandatory for this mod. @Nadeox1 for the materials help and anyone who I forgot to mention. Spoiler: pics Edit 26-1-2017 http://www.6r4.net/site/ is going to help me with sounds and maybe a model! Please look at their website and share the love for this great car. I can't thank them enough. I can't even believe it.
Both fo the cars look very nice. i dont know how the interior was one the renault, but you plan to remove some of the parts? (ie. The radio, The a/c controllers and stuff like that?)
I remember the MG Metro 6R4 for being bonkers at least you are trying your best to replicate how crazy it was, can you add in additional tyres so for Snow, Gravel as well so it can be used in all conditions
I am currently trying to get the sbr4 suspension in the hatch, mesh work was easy since it fitted quite good. I am going to connect the parts with the covet body after dinner. I also moved the fuel tank to the front, so it won't interfere with the new lower, longditional engine placement.
Is the radiator still in the front? You could move it to the back, because that would keep the radiator safe from rougher landings
yes, I am still trying to get the sbr4 suspension ingame as the hatch suspension, but when that is ready, I can start making more configs. The current config is suited for gravel and other loose terrains. It has a soft supsension for traction and jumps but since it had a lot of turbo lag (normal configs will be N/a), it was tricky with full throttle on higher speeds at the 5500 rpm to 6000 rpm since the turbo kicked in --- Post updated --- Okay, I keep screwing the suspension up. Mesh work and materials of the sbr4 parts work, parts show up, but the front suspension falls apart and the rear is like stone. I have asked a few guys for help and I hope they can solve the issue, otherwise we will do it with a modified covet suspension. The engine and gearbox are in place and jbeamed so that is something that succeeded...
The suspension is back to normal again, I did 'some' mesh work on the body I also made a new huge spoiler, but I am having issues with downforce http://beamng.com/threads/problems-with-downforce.35402/#post-525461
Update: I got the downforce working by a bit of cheating and a lot of jbeam work. It now has 4 variables, the angle of the front spoiler, works with a nodeheight as variable. and the normal dragcf variables of the spoiler, front bumper and 'cheating' body parts which are triangles in the frame. here is a video from before I fixed the hood:
What kind of downforce cheating? Why didn't you do proper downforce or was there something that hindered you doing that. But hey I can't wait to try it out. Will be interesting to compare this cars times to others.
cheating like adding some triangles in the body to give downforce since the spoilers didn't help enough alone It is not like adding upward thrusters or something like that . It is cheating since beam doesn't simulate air drag realistic. It just looks at the size, placement and drag/lift coef of the triangles and doesnt care about others in front of it .
An update: I have worked on the downforce. I needed to use very high values to get the desired result so it needs a bit of work. The suspension is going to be changed this weekend and next weekend since it is not strong enough and the front wheels are not grippy enough(Has to do with the weight balance) and I am trying to fix the high stresses on the body parts before sunday. The engine options are: All stock and modded covet engines, the biggest barstow engine with supercharger options, the V6R 2991 cc engine with turbo and 1 supercharger options. That drivetrain part is nearly complete, when I work on the suspension, I will add a rear diff since the current is a placeholder. So, a lot to do here is a bad quality video made last week: You can see that the downforce works( look how the car behaves on jumps) It is fast with the turbo, and see my status for how it drives with the V6 and stage 4 supercharger.... I am looking for MG metro 6R4 engine sounds, but nothing so far.. --- Post updated --- small update: I sent MG car club an email with my question about sounds I hope they reply or I will try another channel --- Post updated --- Holy shit, I sent 6r4.net an email about the sounds and I asked about 3d models.. I got a reply in an hour! and He said that he could record sounds for me, and is going to ask his partner about the Dirt Rally model! This is going way better than expected! - A very happy Blijo
Update about the Bolide, I asked synsol to test, he gave me good feedback and a console list of errors. I fixed those if i'm right. more than 6,7k Configs are ready, Images are the right size Jbeam is finished. Just doing some testing now, A few things to fix: -there is a hole or see through part in the mesh, 1min fix. notes: My modelling skills are not very good, but I am proud of the tailgate, really love that UV-maps are the stock ones with the new faces inside the bodyparts so skins may give a weird effect, not planning to fix that since it is almost invisible spoilers have been disabled since I don't like spoilers on Cabrio's, but you will be able to add them by deleting two /'s in the slots part of the tailcone. <-- You will need to make the underside of the normal spoilers longer since the tailcone mesh for the cabrio is different. It works with other mods.
I may release the Bolide in the next few days, sending the files to my beloved testers now Mesh is done, it looks good imo, jbeam is done, configs are done, mod testing is done, error checking is done
