Xbox 360 controller doesn't work

I plugged the controller in, the lights on the controller are on, but it doesn't work, every button I press doesn't do a thing, is there a way to fix this that doesn't involve reconfiguring the controller, or do I have to download the game again?

 

Dude, if you want help, youre gonna need to give us more info. What kind of 360 controller?

 

It is the standard model, that is plugged in via USB, still doesn't work.

 

I use a hard wired xBox360 controller to play Beam NG and it works I play BeamNG and still works. does the xbox home button light up when you plug it in your PC?

 

Do you have the right drivers and does it show up correctly in the controllers menu (in control panel)

 

As in the wireless with the charge cable?

 

Also it has to be a wired xBox 360 controller not a wirless controller with a play and charge kit. Unless you have a microsoft wireless controller receiver for your PC the a wireless controller will work

 

Yes it is a wired controller, but it is working fine now. Problem Fixed
