Why is the game called BeamNG.drive?

It just sounds like an unusual name for a game. I think the .drive part clues you that it has something to do with driving cars, but where did the rest of the name come from?

I think it means something like "Beam Node Game : Drive"

 

BeamNG stands for Beam next generation(beamNG is also the name of the physics engine), and drive is the name of the game

Physicsenginename.gamename basically

(in fact if you search beamng on twitch, it'll actually show up as Drive, not BeamNG.Drive)

I always thought the NG stood for New Generation.

 

The one thing I can hope to add to this conversation that hasn't already been said is that the 'BeamNG' moniker can be used in future years and/or decades in the event that the developers and businessmen behind the game would like to license their tech out to other projects. I'm not sure if that's the plan, but it would be a shrewd strategy.
