Surely good sir you have to be familiar with NGM. In his heyday NGM authored several of the greatest custom map add-ons this forum has seen. It truly is a shame that he no longer visits this community.
I have a huge ammount of respect for @bob.blunderton hes genuinly an inspiration not only as a modder but as a person. Hes always been nothing but kind and hardworking and despite some health and life issues continued to push free updates to probably my favorite modded map there is oh and me of coruse

I'd say the best modders out there are LucasBE, Kueso, LJ74, the Wilkinson brothers, Nekkit, szanto_sz, DrowsySam, Inn0c3ntJ0k3r, RyanCookie, etc. There's too many to list! lol Honourable mentions go to DocroSwagge, TheTalkingBath, LordLichi06, FR3DDY_CR, Hoang Sean, Robert_CZLP, et al. You're simply daft if you think that. I believe people should look for compensation for their efforts beyond donations which 99% of people won't do, especially in such an ungrateful and toxic community like BeamNG's, who generally expects modders to work like slaves to bring content forth for the game.
Tell me you are gen Z/Alpha without telling me you are gen Z/Alpha. And this is not because "young people hurr durr", no it's just that just 15 years back the idea of paid mods was absolutely laughable. You know who came up with this silly idea? It was Bethesda who wanted to capitalize on yet another market, but we pushed back because modding was for everyone rich and poor, it was not supposed to turn into just another shop for pretty stuff to buy from. I understand that people should look for compensation, but do you really want to live in a world where every single thing is monetized? Where you are expected to make money in every minute of your life? Not everything should be like that, modding is what keeps old games going and what allows even people who cannot afford games or modern hardware to still have stuff to do in their free time. I used to do tons of mods for san andreas, doom 3, half life and such and you wouldn't believe how many thank you messages i got for the bigger ones it was beautiful. Some of the mods were joint efforts, thousands of hours were spent but nobody wanted compensation, we did it for the games and community we loved, to make a name to ourselves and for the glory lol But the biggest thing of this is very simple, you don't install one mod or two. You install a dozen, some hundreds or even thousands of mods and i'm afraid that if we support paid mods the amount of free ones will slowly diminish (or their quality will) and at that point will you really be willing to pay as much as the entire game for a couple of mods? I don't think so, so the whole thing falls apart. And this is without even mentioning that publishers will smell their profit margins and start to capitalize on it as well at some point. Yes in general people should be compensated for their work, that's just not the place to make a profit. Sometimes used to volunteer to pick up litter and stuff around my city, if i started asking for money to whoever passed by the street i just had cleaned nobody went "oh he should be compensated", nah people would think I'm a beggar.
Why did you have to turn this thread into a paid mod vs free mod debate, you are the worst type of person on this forum... Every single god damn thread has the same tired arguments in it and everyone is so TIRED of hearing them. You didnt come here to share your opinion on the best modders, you just wanted to stir the pot of "paid vs free" wich genuinly should be a punishable offense on this forum. It does nothing other than upset everyone without actually making any meaningful change.
Woa woa, we are talking modding not politics and war, do people really get that upset about something like this? And do you often go around calling people the worst? I didn't behave in a hostile way, didn't attack anyone i just stated my opinion. Had no idea people got that worked up about a simple tech related discussion, like what's up with that lol Let's just be decent people, you can agree to disagree without accusing people of being this and that. Besides that i haven't been very active here, still reading the room.
The problem with your argument is that as games advance and get more complex, the effort required to make content for it grows with it, while this is not to say that older mods for game didn't require an immense amount of effort to make good mods, the effort has simply grown as games advance which means that the skills required to make a new piece of content for the game are both more in numbers but more in ability, nowadays making a new BeamNG mod requires skill in car design (interior and exterior), engineering knowledge (suspension, engine, etc.), modeling skill, coding skill, and the list goes on. There's a reason why there's a team at BeamNG working on any given new car, and therefore I think the ship has sailed in high quality mods being regularly free, especially in a community, which as aforementioned is filled with entitled, rude and frankly stupid people which make life hell for modders thinking they deserve these labours of love for themselves in exchange for constant nagging.
You know this is a good point, can't really argue with it. I imagine i wouldn't have a problem with all of that if the scene wasn't filled with fools thinking they can make a quick buck with a mod that is neither high quality quality nor original (i see so many mods consisting of a 3d model being imported from another game and no details whatsoever). My concern still stands, modding is something beautiful that should be accessible to everyone but it makes sense that what is happening is not only a situation we are creating ourselves but also one that is given by the changing technologies. The good thing is tools are getting better too and at some point we may be able to generate our own content with an MLA.
The thing is nowadays if you release a mod on the repo it gets uploaded to at least half a dozen dodgy sites where the uploaders make a small amount of money for the crappy ads the end user has to endure. Essentially profiting off the mod creator’s hard work. So it’s pretty understandable why modders decide to go the paid route.
