?

Which is more accurate?

  1. Air speed

    80.0%
  2. Wheel speed

Hi, Ive been making an automation mod called the McLarry P14, which is currently a package of 4 vehicles.
the vehicle in question is the most recent version, the McLarry VELOCITY.

This vehicle aims to be fastest automation vehicle with top speed 500mph in BeamNG.drive gridmap.

In regard to this targeted speed, I'm not certain which speed reading to use; the airspeed reading or the wheel speed reading?

I am unsure as a result of the obvious inflation on the wheels at 300+ mph which may skew the indicated velocity.

    Which is best to use?

Apologies if this is not the right area to post this thread :).

Airspeed is ACTUAL speed related to still air on the ground. Wheel speed is just that - calculated based on the size of the tire/wheel and how many times it rotates.

So it's apples and oranges but to answer your question, I always go by AIRSPEED so long as wind is set to 0. If wind speed is altered, your airspeed is no longer accurate without some math. But wheel speed can be zero even if you're moving 500mph =)

To give you a technical answer: Wheelspeed is as already mentioned the wheel rpm multiplied with the wheel dimensions (with the correct units ofc) which can change depending on speed.
Airspeed is actually "speed over static ground". Wind does not influence this in recent versions.
However, if you were to drive on some sort of moving platform (like an aircraft carrier or similar) neither wheel nor airspeed would give you truly accurate readings.

Thankyou, I’ll bear these factors in mind and will from now on use airspeed whenever the top speed of a car is in question :)

The last time I used airspeed (I feel like it was only the last build) and I put it to say . . 200mph. . if I was GOING 200mph, it would read 0!

I could try that in reverse, car going with the wind to crack 700mph
