Hello BeamNG-loving people. I think BeamNG Drive is an amazing program and it is incredible what some of you guys on the forums make yourselves. I was thinking about possibly getting into making vehicles myself. The problem is that I have practically no knowledge in that category and I was wondering, if I were to make mods and vehicles myself then what all programs and softwares would I need and where in the world do I start? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
i have no experience either but would suggest starting using blender and start with the basics, such as just changing hoods or wheels etc
Thanks, that is a good idea. Hopefully somebody with more experience in making vehicles can inform us on what all we need and stuff like that.
For modelling the preferred favourites seem to be 3DS max or blender. Blender is totally free. 3DS max is hideously expensive but you might be able to obtain it if you are a student at college or uni for free. For JBeam editing ither GEdit or Notepad++ or another syntax highlighting text editor (my favourites are GEdit and nano though). Setting the syntax highlighting to JSON, or if that is not supported then lua or javascript (preferably the latter) will then syntax highlight JBeam files, there is also a Notepad++ syntax highlighting file for JBeam available. You will also need an image editor which properly supports alpha channels etc. Adobe photoshop is probably best, and most expensive. GIMP is free. Someone even mentioned using Paint.net but that is truly awful in my opinion. MS Paint won't do at all.
Sorry for the late reply but thanks man! Just downloaded blender, I'll have to start messing around with it this weekend.
this may be a bit of a late comment but also if you start with mods rather than full-on vehicles you can gain little bits of experience as you go on, then once you think you have enough you can move onto the separate cars, or basing them on base cars like the covet, bolide etc.
