Where is the UI Apps configuration stored?

I'm going to be honest. The fact that my whole UI app layout gets reset after every update is beginning to push me away from this game.

I use a LOT of UI apps. Whenever the game updates, they're all wiped out and reset to the default layout, and I immediately just shut it back down again because I realize I need to spend another 20 minutes picking all the apps and lining everything up perfectly.
Again.
And that kind of ruins things for me, since BeamNG is a game I usually just jump right into as a quick boredom buster where I normally just fire it straight up and get right to breaking stuff.


I found a file in Documents\BeamNG.drive\settings\uiapps-layouts.json, and it APPEARS to have my previous configuration saved, but the game is still set to its default layout.
Modifying, adding gibberish, or even deleting the JSON file entirely has absolutely zero impact on the game or the apps. The file isn't even rebuilt when I restart the game after deleting it, so it's clearly not using that file for anything at least when the game is running.

What I want to know is if there's a way to apply the data from this JSON file (I have a backup copy of before I messed with it.), or at least where the current data is stored, so I can configure the UI one last time, and then just import that configuration again after an update overwrites it.
