What's the point exactly?

So, after playing the tech demo I just had to buy this game, it has one of the best car physics simulations I've ever seen. Driving a car feels very realistic to me.

But then comes a problem. Two, actually. The game has excellent crashing physics, and as of now, no real racing. So if you go search a video on yt, it's just brainless crashing, which is just....meh. Gets old quick.

The other problem is that the game needs a monster pc right now to be able to run multiple vehicles at once. So, because of that, I struggle to see a big multiplayer scene in the future.

So, what is the point of the game exactly? Is it just a crashing simulator? A single player only game? Rally simulator?

I fear the physics engine prowess might actually be a limitation in the future, which would be a shame, driving feel is awesome in this game.

    So, a single player rally/crashing simulator? :(

Rally is fine for me actually...

Pretty much a Physics Sandbox right now, until story gets added in a future update.

its all of them and none of it all people here have put hundreds and maybe even Thousand hours into the game just by using some mods but mostly with there imagination i myself have at this point 988 hours played and it still isnt boring or repitive its what you make of it yourself that's the beauty of it

You've got to remember the game is still early access, meaning it's not finished yet. A story mode and racing AI will come in the future but right now it's just a physics sandbox.

Imagine Forza 3 with real time flat tires, bent axles, engine thermal failure, transmission failure, rear end gear failure, engine compression loss,
power steering failure, wheel bearing failure, aerodynamic drag from deformation, radiator failure, on and on and on.

I could go on all day but the goal is obvious:cool:.

Forza doesn't have real time tire wear+ failure? Kinda funny that 2006's DTM Race Driver 3 already had that feature, but never games, including the successoring GRiD games doesn't have it.

Once we get all the features you listed ingame some endurance races would be a great addition.

Wait what GRID? like in Racedriver GRID and GRID autosport series by codemasters? Aren't that series meant to be a arcade racer? Not sure what Autosport does as i haven't been researching that game but i have researched GRID 2 and have played GRID 1 myself.

OT: Well the game by itself might get boring but with this modding community it stays entertaining. Try to learn drifting, test certain cars configs and get used to them. Test the top speed of cars. Drive a Ibishu pigeon and a gavril t75 at full speed toward each other, scrape off the remaining Ibishu pigeon off the t75 grille, try to drive a car to the max and possibly damage it in the process until it overheats or is immobilized in any other way.

My point wasn't meant to be overly specific but generalistic. Sure others have implemented features or tech
that BeamNG is doing but the point is that this game will do it real time in a much more detailed fashion, a fashion
only BeamNG will be able to do:cool:. Even at this stage no car game in my life has made me laugh so heartily when driving
around with a shredded right rear tire like BeamNG for example. Even at this stage there are so many little things that happen
randomly that blow me away that no other car game does.

Anyway, ranting aside, I think the OP's question could be answered quite readily by putting a little effort into exploring this
site. Wisely, the devs will never commit to any specific "retail release" goal so detective work is required to get that question
    answered to any extent.

A wee bit too much coffee for me today:p.

for the performance complaints... i haven't noticed much lag.
my gpu is a gtx 680 running at 1.3ghz
but the rest of my system is fairly overkill, this screen shot was before my ram upgrade, everything is same but now im at 48gb.
using outdated server hardware i could build a setup to crush mine overall for under 500$(not per core though)
also they have the scenarios and promise of a campaign so i would be a little less upset about no objective.

I haven't said that it's bad that .drive is lacking that feature (so far), I mentioned the other games only... definitely too much coffee ;).
They really turned that series into arcade? Race Driver 3 was such a nice game...
Well, I think also arcarde games should have such basic features like tire wear, otherwise I could also play mario-kart ;)

Back to OT, if you get into modding you have a hell lot to do, the game is pretty mod friendly, both car - and mapwise, you got a wiki and if you come over problems there is great community and the mod-support.
Eats a lot of time and requires even more patience though.

Is that a Bi-Xeon PC? Must've cost a mint for those two chips alone. If you don't mind me asking (and deviating from the thread), why did you need/want that much power?

Thats a lotta horsepower there for that system I would definitely think about upgrading the GPU in it to something a little more powerful :p thats if its affordable hehe

Yeah GRID 1 was a good game. Kind of a mix between simulation and arcade. From what i read from reviews grid 2 was more drift focused. I mean drifting every corner and some supercars feeling like driving on ice. And that's in a normal race and not a drift event.

And on topic again: Continuing my last post you might want to get familiar with vehicle tuning in game. I myself want to maybe get into some minor mod making as engines for the default cars or even model work? I want to contribute to the community by helping adding that sort of stuff to Djploppers config pack one day. Well i might learn to do it one day when i get the time.

2x xeon x5690's, im a person that scraps buy with my job and i do odd jobs on the weekend... sometimes. and when i find a good deal i jump, i got this motherboard in 2012 i think when it was going out of stock on amazon right when i just got 500$, it was 450 new. it sat in a box for 2 months, in that time i bought 2 xeon l5506's for 25$ a possessor and one heat sink for 15$ ran off old gpu and borrowed ram and psu for a while. ordered second heatsink for 25$ as it was no longer on sale, picked up 2 more gtx 480's by trading, sli was horrible and gave 2 away, bough 12gb of over priced ram for 100$, firend gave me a 1300w psu for Christmas 2015, then someone gave me a gtx 680, used gtx 480 for phyx and to drive my second monitor as 680 only had 1 DVI-A. then still arround that time my hours were cut back at work but found enough odd jobs to work every day of the week, bought 2 on sale xeon x5690's for 180$ a chip. got a my 10 hr days back at work and got a raise aka no weekend work needed, bought 12 4gb sticks of ram for 4.25$ a stick. and at some point before the gtx 680 i bought a 40$ 15k drive, got mad at GTA, wiped everything off my desk, HDD platter locked, bought new drive 40$ then around 680 time bought second one for 20$ used, and arround 2 months ago i bought a 150$ conteroller to replace my horrible 15$ hp controller that only works properly on my hpz800 workstation.

last winter pick of my server (i like to paint my hardware with engine enamel)

hpz800 workstation, sr2 got cpu upgrade, found that MB for 80$ new, jumped on it, got my old ram and cpu from sr-2(l5506's) and gpu comes and goes from buying/trading arround.

outdated pic of hp server, and no thats not the same gtx 480, and i sold that one long time ago.

my camera batteries are dead so instead of modern pic of my rig ile just link a video i made because home people were looking at my hp server setup and dissing it like it was my main rig.
also i cuss alot so if that offends you dont click video, i pulled off not cussing in forum thats the best i can do.

I would answer your question but everyone here already did. There is no point yet. The came can get boring quickly without mods. Even with mods, i uninstalled it, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't has insane potential.

Let the devs make great AI and make multiple AI cars not destroy your PC and we will have this game as a forza horizon/NFS knockoff with smaller maps and realistic physics.

Give the game the ability to create custom real time skins, and more racing maps, and we have something that competes with Asseto Corsa.

Go down a similar path and you have a rally simulator.

Even if BeamNG fails as a game to entretain, the physics would be so developed that if they put the license for sale, several companies could rent it to make other, even better, car games. Maybe using real cars instead?

The thing about BeamNG its not what it is now, even if we disregard that its an early access, but the thing about BeamNG its that its an evolution from RoR, a sandbox that gets some insane physics right.

Welcome to open alpha, the game isn't finished and it makes sense from the devs point of view to get the physics, weather system, AI ect. working before actually adding any kind of career. As for requirements remember when someone told you get a good GPU, the CPU doesn't really matter? Yeah they weren't talking about BeamNG when they said that, any game with good physics will require a good CPU and as Beam has great physics is needs a great CPU. (it should also see optimization once it's "finished")
