Hello. I wanna make a map in BeamNG.Drive and I've been using the world editor, but I don't know if I need to just download only Blender or if I need to download Notepad++ too. If I need to download other stuff besides those two things, please let me know. Oh and just one more question. How are the map files gonna work? Any answers would be great. I wanna make a map inspired by bob.blunderton's Los Injurus map, but way smaller obviously to begin with. I wanna add houses, road signs, etc. Also, I do not know how to make AI roads, so I would love it if I could figure that out. Anyways, any feedback would be appreciated.
I’m not good at making maps, but you should definitely get Notepad++ and blender, if you want to make custom models. Try searching up some tutorials on YouTube.
Yeah I’ve tried too, it didn’t work. It is kind of hard to make a map from scratch, but anyways good luck with your map!
This may help: I would suggest doing quite a bit of reading around before starting, or just going for it, and expecting to hit a lot of barriers. I would also use this forum a lot for any questions (try putting those in the world editor section, as this will get them seen more quickly).
Sadly, it says the template map is outdated and when I typed it in on the BeamNG repo in the game. There were no results. Thanks for you trying to help, though.
No worries, in that case, you just have to copy a map folder across using the same method as the other tutorials on here. Or you could use AlexKidd's map tool to make the new folder. Basic summary is: Copy map file from the game folder steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\content\levels - e.g. "east_coast_usa" Put that into your C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\BeamNG.drive\0.29\levels folder (unzip and copy the folder inside the levels folder, e.g. "east_coast_usa" straight into the levels folder) Rename the folder ("east_coast_usa" -> "mymap", etc.) Then go into that folder, go into one of the .json files in there using notepad++ (easiest way). With that open, go to "find in files" and do this: This will link all the materials, decals, objects, terrains, etc. in your new map to the new folder. But it will still show up as the old map in the game, so you need to change the level.info, which populates the menu information. So go to the first folder in your new map and open info.json Then change the details... e.g. becomes: Whatever you want to put in there. That should give you a starting point, and then my tutorial should kick in from there.
Um, btw. I cannot find East Coast USA in the content/levels folder of my computer, sadly. I am trying to follow along, though. Btw, I do not want to waste your time. I just wanna learn.
No worries, it'll be in your steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\content\levels Mine is D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\content\levels, but usually its c: in programme filed, etc. --- Post updated --- You can put the unzipped folder into your mod folder instead, (in the unzipped folder). I've got a feeling this might protect it from being deleted when you clear cache. I've just always done it in the levels folder, not really sure why. But if you do need to clear cache, make a backup of your map, it has a habit of deleting your blood, sweat and tears.
I'm trying to access the Steam Library, but sadly. I still can't pull up East Coast USA in it. I can't even find Steam Library in my files. If I could just access Steam Library. That would be a start. Thank you for sharing the cache stuff with me, though. --- Post updated --- C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\BeamNG.drive\0.29\levels folder This levels folder in 0.29. I sadly can't find East Coast USA in it. I'm really trying hard. Any piece of information really helps a lot, btw. Thank you so much!
Just try my tool for copying east coast. It will search your steam install directory. https://www.beamng.com/threads/beamng-tool-for-map-creators-big-update.89058/
Update: I've given up (at least for now). I tried Spealer's tutorial and maybe I should try another one, but I don't have the patience right now. I'm sorry.
