Hello! It's my first post ! I would like to know what you think about old and modern french cars. So what is your opinion ?
For me it's too broad to answer with a single opinion. It's like how you can't classify all American cars under one stereotype. So, here's a few of my thoughts. - I appreciate the spartan and utilitarian design of some very early french cars, like the 2CV in particular. - I love old Bugattis, they were engineering and stylistic marvels at the time - Citroen DS is mega ugly, though largely from what I know, the 60s and 70s made some good french cars - The 80s - 90s made some baaaaad french cars, tagging along with square styling but in all the wrong places, except for Renault, they made some nice hot hatches - Modern french cars have succumbed to the same thing that modern American and Japanese cars have; a sort of design ethic employing transverse four cylinder front wheel drive small sedans and hatchbacks with rounded bodies and sharp edges. They're all practically the same; compare a Hyundai Accent to a Renault Clio or a Ford Fiesta. Nothing really differentiates them, and this is perhaps why I don't care in the least bit about modern cars.
Wut? If we talk about design, I think Peugeot have done very good at that time: Spoiler Also latest Peugeot models I see quite nice, example 308: Spoiler Would own:
I'm a fan of a lot of them. As mentioned above, it's very hard to generalise just based on nationality but the trend of Citroen producing "avantgarde" designs and ideas is I think apparent. The DS was fantastic as it was so modern and ahead of its time. The first C4 was also interesting in its interior and exterior design. I can empathise with the poster above in that a lot of modern cars are very similar in design and capability but I think again that the cactus again was a welcome change to the trend. Renault too have had a few cool cars in there time as have peugeot but now they have generally become very bland especially now the RCZ has gone. Overall though there are definitely a lot of french cars that I like! Oh my god how did I forget about the 406 coupe! So pretty!
Modern french car wise, you guys making one that isnt either hideously ugly or hideously unreliable yet?
Yeah I mean you have some good French brands from there but, modern definitely is the way to go but for the Classics I am not too sure. What about the Renault Alpine A442 for a possible "Le Mans" inspired car idk...just a crazy idea
lately most Renaults have lost their character and they have been downsizing considerably, take the espace, could get 3.0dci and 3.5 v6 from the 350z, now we have a 1.6 petrol and 1.6 diesel and its not sold in the UK, Pegeuots have been rubbish apart from the RCZ, the old peugeots are good though, Citreon has just been meh, boring cars and i dont know what the citreon DS series is all about
Renault's Initale concept from the late 90s. Quirky, but I like it. Also it had a detuned F1 engine so it could do 190mph.
My 1994 Peugeot 205 1.6 The colour is Vert Mayerling and it's equipped with original Speedline SL189 alloy wheels, plus original mudflaps.
Was it FWD? I see no other excuse for that front wheel placement. THINK OF THE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION ;_;
Now if I recall the only Renault Car ever to be fitted with the F1 engine was the Renault Espace F1 and it was fitted with a Williams/Matra F1 3.5 Litre V10 engine it was the engine used in the Williams FW15C in 1993, yes I did do some digging on this car it had something like 800bhp at ???? rpm and 520ft lbs at ???? rpm and from what I read it had a top speed AROUND 193.9 or 194mph depending on the sources you quote (Who said I was good at digging around in facts , I am thinking 800bhp was somewhere around 13,000rpm and that 520ft lbs of torque was around between 6000 to 9000rpm)
