I recently got a new computer (took the plunge and finally moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10). Saw the warning about gaming mode, and the fact that it should be turned off. Went into my menu, and no toggle switch (as described) exists for me. Does that mean that it's on by default or off by default? How do I make the toggle switch appear on my menu? I notice the Windows update #1903 for May is not on my list of installed updates, so maybe that's why I see no toggle switch for the game mode? I dunno. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you. -- B3B
Would like to know a certain way to makle sure its off too. Ive even made changes to the registry and also menus here and there but a simple ON/OFF would be nice to see lol. You can bring up the W10 Game mode menu, cant remember how now, and see if it active or not.
I know Win+G is game bar, not sure if that's something different? And AFAIK I have game mode on and I experience no issues, although I may need to update...
I just figured out how to get there [Settings > Gaming > Game Mode]... ... but all it says is that my PC supports Game Mode. It doesn't say in so many words as to whether the mode is active or not. Also my computer is running updates right now, and I don't see a May 2019 #1903 waiting in the queue. -- I have a Windows 10, version 1809 x64 2019-05 coming my way and installing at 50% thus far. -- And I have a 2019-02 Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB 434 6085) coming my way & awaiting restart. However, nothing about this #1903 I've been told to look out for. So maybe I'm getting away unscathed, and it won't reach me? --- Post updated --- Well I think this may be what happened: 1903 update is only available to batches of customers at a time... and I'm not one of them. At least not yet. I can force an early install, by going to MS's web page, but I'm not in a real hurry until it shows up on my system automatically. Until 1903 is installed, I'm willing to bet that I won't have a game mode toggle switch, and that's the reason I'm not seeing it. Quite possibly, game bar on/off, is also toggling game mode on/off, until such a time that a game mode toggle switch appears for me. That's about all I can guess for the time being.
Game Mode is available from Windows 10 Creators Update ( v. 1703) It's available in both the Game Bar (but I believe it would only affect that specific game), or system-wise from the system settings.
You pretty much need to go into the Windows update, scan for updates & let it update to the Creators Update. After that, the Game Mode should appear in the Start menu
Game mode is introduced from Windows 10 Creators Update ( v. 1703), this means if you don't update to 1703, the game mode is always OFF. No need to update just to see a "game mode" toggle switch.
For follow-up and clarification purposes, my computer updated to version 1809 on June 4th, 2019; and my Game Bar > Game Mode > "button on/off" switch now exists. I can confirm that upon opening it, it was turned on, so I turned it off. Maybe this will help others. Thank you 'default0.0player'.
