I changed the names of the folders for the vehicles so they are sorted better in game. Like if they are a prop I call them P_(name) or a car is V_c_(name).
This results in the vehicle not showing up in game. Does anyone know why this happens? Or how to fix it without getting rid of the categorizing?

Yes I know why this is happening. You can't just change foldernames. All the files Inside the car's folder must be changed according to the new foldername. Further more you need to edit every file because there are references to the car's name in it too.

Only hing you can do to change the car name is to edit the Name.cs file.

You also need to change the name of the dae and the main JBeam file

But if you only want to change the name ingame you only need to edit the file "name.cs" in vehicle folder.

Just change "%vehicleName" to the desired name.

Thanks. I wish there was an easier way to do that.

The thing is, Beamng uses the order of the folders to determine where the vehicles will be placed in the list, so you have a jumble of everything with no order to it.
Maybe one day the devs will do something about that.

Wouldn't changing just the vehicle name cause problems further down the pipeline?...for instance changing the vehicle color or anything related to jbeams and .dae files? I made a custom GM in that it had modified
deform values different from the stock values. Through trial and error I eventually eneded up changing the entire vehicle file references of the original to the custom ie "Grand Marshal 2". Did it the hard
way through notepad. Now, with every reference to the original Grand Marshal gone I now have a perfectly operating custom GM devoid of glitches and the color selector will change it and not the
    stock GM.
It's also immensely helpful to do this when changing skins to avoid any other GM's in the level from obtaining the same skin.
Maybe not the most efficient or logical way to go about it but it works for me.:D
