Vehicles do not shift in water anymore

Hello,
since the new update vehicles in the arcade shifting mode do not shift anymore if they reached a certain water level. I understand why they do not shift up, because the vehicle would slow down too much, but shifting down should be possible. I drowned a few vehicles because they refused to go in reverse and it took me to long to switch in realistic mode. I would apprechiate if something can be improved there.

 

why do you not use realistic mode and put an automatic transmission in the cars?
