All mods must be a in a ZIP Folder. If you don't ZIP the mod folder, the mod won't work. That's if what you here asking.

Mods can work both packed and unpacked.

Unpacked might load faster on slower/mechanical hard drives, but that's about it. No FPS increase.

    ^ This is basically it.
Only unpack your mods if you will be editing them AKA if you mod. Other than that, keeping them packed is guaranteed to work and easily updated. The auto-update system won't work with unpacked mods.

You need to put it in the unpacked folder, but the easiest way is to go to the mod manager, select the mod, and press unpack. But there's no reason to.

Yes, but it requires some skill, can break the game, can't be auto-updated or manually updated easily, etc.

    Ok then.

But since all my mods are packed, might as well leave them :)
