Since version 0.30 BeamNG has added basic VR motion controller support for interacting with vehicle interiors. While I think this is a great first step, I really don't want to have to deal with motion controllers while using my wheel. It's cumbersome to have to stop the vehicle and find my motion controllers every time I want to interact with the cockpit.

A good solution would be to add support for hand tracking devices such as the Ultraleap and the Meta Quest 2 and 3's hand tracking. The best example of this type of system in action would be DCS as seen in this video

An additional feature that would be very useful as well would be steering wheel detection. If my real-life hands are placed on my physical steering wheel, my virtual hands must be placed in the same place on the virtual wheel regardless of the size difference between the physical and virtual wheel. There would need to be a calibration performed where the user will measure the radius and location of their physical wheel by grabbing the wheel on opposite sides and rotating it. This will make it possible to know the dimensions and position/rotation of the wheel which will allow an algorithm to map the position of the hands from the physical wheel to the virtual one.

Steering wheel detection would only be practical, though, if the hand tracking device doesn't lose tracking while grabbing the wheel. Might be best to simply hide the hands of they're close to the wheel.
