In spirit of Best Motoring, let's see what CPU will win! Sure there is banana benchmark thread, but I thought here we try to have little competition. Ryzen 2600(X), coming 3000 series, Threadripper 2xxx and Intel 9900(K), 9700(K), 8700(K), 8600(K) are something that would end up onto listing for sure. Updated graphs, added few CPUs, two graphs pick your poison. numbers don't correlate to real number of vehicles running in game, I can run 6-7 on JRI 2 on Italy with 6700 while not dropping below 60fps and graphics on high: Threadripper 1950X and AMD FX-8350 added, also single core performance graph and 7 vehicle bench that should favor Ryzen 2700X quite well Here is 5 and 10 vehicles too, so you have something to choose Little explanation, Score is realtime % with collisions (thanks to Nadeox1 for the idea). Number at bottom are number of vehicles, result of 1 vehicle tell how well your CPU handles CPU graphics of BeamNG, that is what you see as CPU render and CPU pre-render in performance graphs tool in game (you need to enabled advanced functions to see it). Number 5 at the bottom would be 5 vehicles without graphics, so 3-4 vehicles in game as graphics and LUA, UI etc. occupy one to two CPU threads, which workload also does increase with added vehicles, so you will get slowdown before physics will become a limit. Note that for example for me slowdown happens only around 250% on graph on CPU light maps, CPU heavy maps it happens already at 3 vehicles. Spoiler < first graph that is now outdated With more data it is more useful to someone looking to upgrade his computer too and who gets to top gets bragging rights of course. So I'm not going to add anything slower than slowest currently on list, also your result need to be potentially interesting for someone looking to upgrade his CPU, 2nd hand or new, so I'm not going to add tens of almost the same unless price/performance ratio is really good or if actual performance has not something new to offer to list. Oh and if someone likes to put something in his breathing equipment and start a argument, you can go outside, here we are interested only from data, which will serve as guide to people looking for upgrades. It may be slower than the slowest result, but I think it's still a good result for an i5 (not overclocked btw). Since there are no Intel Core i5 benchmark results in your graph yet this may be a bottom line for the upcoming results with newer chips (8600-9600). This can also be a good comparison between high end consumer cpus (Intel Core i7 and Ryzen 7) with a cheaper and probably wider spread processor (Intel Core i5 and Ryzen 5, even tho the Ryzen crushes my cpu results :\) I have an i7 (i7 3537U, laptop cpu; it's the only i7 I've ever had) results too, but are even lower than the i5 ones, so I avoid uploading them.
Somehow your result is bit odd how it drops at 4 vehicles or so, I'm not sure if it should do that: Graph is at 1st post Problem with adding all CPUs is that it becomes quite hard to read, already kinda is, but I might craft few different graphs and play with line colors and styles a bit, like different reds for red team and different blues for blue team. What would be nice is that user could enable and disable CPUs easily and compare what they wish, but that might be bit much for me. This kind might of course work somewhat, further the center, faster it is, you can also see how your CPU result is different from others: graph is at 1st post
I can run it again and see if it changes (done)… If you mean something like Cities: Skylines city statistics Spoiler: Statistics photo you may have to do it in Excel or a similar program... I'm not an expert in graphs I've run the bench again and it gave me a very different result :\ Oh and just a question: what program do you use to make those graphs?
Yeah, Banana bench is bit tricky, it varies a lot and usually it is best run after reboot and no any other programs or background tasks running, even then few times might be needed to get a clean run. As you can see, now your results makes much more sense, it is pretty much same speed as one of my CPU (i7-6700), but my CPU has hyperthreading so with more cars there is bit difference. Old graph taken away, same data is now on graph at 1st post. These numbers don't much actual number of cars in game, that is bit different, for example my CPU handles 6-7 cars and some maps up to 8 cars, but on italy only 2 cars while keeping 60fps on high graphics, graph shows though that Ryzen is really good for running much more cars and Overclocked 1700 seems to be quite good. These graphs are made in Excel, I need to jolt my memory on VBA again, I guess
That's true. I've tested it in game too and with more than 6 cars it starts to have real performance drops. Btw even if it may seem more chaotic I prefer the normal graph over the circular one, but that's maybe because I'm more used to see XY rectancular graphs.
Alright, here with data on my POS5000 Computer. I opted not to bother trying to do this on the AMD FX machine because it's coal-powered and I hence cannot run it without leaving open the doors and windows. So I ran it on the 4790k 4.4ghz all-core speed (locked speed) computer. Chip is delidded and liquid metal above/below the IHS. Phanteks TCP-14E (giant red) air-cooler on it (no water cooling here, water + electricity = BOOM). The system has 32GB DDR3 2400mhz Cas-11 latency memory (4x 8gb sticks). Asus Maximus VII Hero board. System is 4.2 years old. Old but still good, and thankfully so, I don't feel like building a new one for at-least another year or two - maybe more? The Bob is CHEAP and penny-pinching as always. Machine runs Windows 7 Pro x64, SP1. Does not have Microsoft PLUS! Installed though. Screenshot posted below. 182.302 M/Beams/s ... I guess that's good? EDIT: BR = before restart, AR = after restart (ran twice, took snaps of both). This should provide good avg performance. Normally I do my performance tests with web browser closed and Steam open (as most people use it to run the game), and some other normally used utilities open.
Just for reference, my FX8350 has some basic overclock to 4.34GHz and it manages 271% realtime on one vehicle (versus 233% in stock form). However I'm running only 6 cores out of 8, so I can't provide useful data for those detailed graphs.
If you have some cash put it in AMD stock. It will go up by the June (give or take a month) release of Ryzen 3xxx series. Then sell stock about 2~3 weeks after processor launch, or whenever it levels off and folks sell off, and buy yourself an upgrade.
That is improvement, but I think you definitely need an upgrade, something that gets around 500% realtime for single vehicle would have very little limitations in BeamNG drive and most of such CPUs seem to have more than 4 threads. I wish there is more data to these charts, so that it would be easier to avoid those not so great performing models when doing upgrade. Would love to have all CPUs on market to do a controlled test of each, but sadly can't afford such, but perhaps we can push BeamNG to be tool for hardware review sites

I'd like to see someone with a new Ryzen 3xxx series post here. I am likely going to get one, but I may just ride out the storm a bit and wait for the Threadripper 3xxx series to come out, because I need those PCI-E lanes. If I could get 2 16x slots on an AM4 board I'd be set, but alas, no one's stuck a PLX chip on one yet. Limited here on my Z97 board and don't want to make the same mistake twice - just want to make sure it performs decent enough in BeamNG.

Have a heavily overclocked Ryzen 7 1700. UPDATE: 4.0GHz BananaBench. That was an absolute bitch to get. I straight up ran out of power supply trying to get that.
Fractal cases ftw... they're awesome, I have an ARC XL I got 2nd hand with shipping damage, straightened it back out (metal working skill!), *LOVE* this case. They leave Antec/Cooler Master in the dust. That scales very well, it's a shame those 1st gen Ryzen chips run out of steam around 3.8~4.1ghz, where you hit a voltage wall with the GloFlo silicon. I'd say a 3700x/3800x would be a great upgrade, but since you're already pushing 4ghz I'd wait until those chips are 150$ or so to even bother considering an upgrade. That being said on the 3xxx series, they updated with 256-bit FPU's (like intel Haswell and above has) and AVX 256 bit, which really help with BeamNG physics - plus GOBS more cache memory, to help keep things running quick with a couple of vehicles in play. Regardless, that Ryzen will serve you for many years yet. I've had this Haswell (refresh) machine for almost 5 years now. I almost scored a Ryzen 1700 for 40$ back in May brand new too - but they sold out in <24 hours and I was a dumb-dumb and was just considering it still... serves me right for 'you snooze you lose'. Great score though, none-the-less, provided you don't let the magic smoke out. Know the feeling of running out of power, I killed the 3.3v power rail on my editing rig here over the last couple of years of hard-core editing all the time. Was wondering why drives / soundcard, usb things etc, were disappearing for the last year or so... Oops! Got it before it completely murdered the computer by eventually self-destructing, though. Yes, I did the undo-able, I committed the ultimate atrocity, or should I get an award for successfully murdering a Seasonic power supply within it's warranty period??? Entirely, it's in RMA land for now. Thankfully I had the ATX PSU I swiped out of the FX-6300 machine for now (which was barely used a year), to keep me up and running. Yeap, you read that right, The Bob worked a Seasonic to death - but to be fair, I left the editor / 3d modeling software on 24/7 quite often... --Thanks for the feedback on those Ryzen chips guys, I'll go into this knowing my up-and-coming Ryzen purchase will be a good one (not sure if I'll wait for next-gen Threadripper chips to come out, yet, due to pci-e lane requirements). Still tabling all-new Ryzen AM4 / Ryzen Threadripper (used board / ram w/new cpu upon release) / Intel X299 (used)... whatever is the best price will work. --This thread was super-helpful guys thanks a million!
