This is my first time making a map, so the release date is TBA. I always wanted a British map for Beamng Drive but theres only a few half decent ones, so i decided to make my own. This map doesnt have a proper name yet (name suggestions are welcome). Its a fictional place and will include many little villages, back roads, long motorways, farms etc. its pretty much the British countryside. Im using assets from Italy, East Coast Usa and The Heaton Park Project (With permission!). The map is in its very early stages as i have only been working on it for 4 days now. i dont have a set plan for this but am open to any suggestions on what i should add. Heres a few pictures of what i have made so far.....
Good luck, dude! This looks sick and I totally wanna do a Carlton styled chase. (You said there will be motorways and backroads)
Well there's a real place called Beamish, so maybe Beamton or Beamshire, or is that too corny. Or Meshire or Meshton. Some of the houses concern me because they are American in design so would be out of place, but I've yet to try it myself so hopefully it still feels British. You need a lot of countryside. I do wish for a game with a 1:1 of the UK, but I don't suppose that'll ever happen.
Looks great. I look forward to seeing the final version. If you want to pillage any textures or assets from the Somerset map, you have my full permission.
great thank you so much. please could you add me on discord ( popunoodle ) theres something that i hope you can help with
Sorry, I do have a discord account, but I don't really use it, or at least haven't for years.... Happy to try to help here, but can't promise anything.
okay no worries thought it would be easier there. i am using Highdefs template like you did for your map. when i go into my mods and the uk roads map it shows information for highdef template instead. how can i change this before i release my map? thanks
There is a .JSON file in the main map folder called info, or level info, or similar. It has all the description components listed. Just be careful editing it that you don't change anything outside of the quote marks, unless you know what you're doing with JSON files, they're real easy to break an beamng hates a broken JSON. There is a JSON validator you can use online (just copy paste it in there and it will tell you where you killed it) if you run into problems. It's fairly self explanatory though, where it says level name, just change the text, and then level description, etc.
ah alright thats sorted one of the issues. on the beamng tab where you can see all your mods the map is still shown to be highdefs template. do you know how to fix this?
Do you mean the image or the name? It should show the name of the map that you have used, but that depends on how exactly you've named the folders (Beamng is a tricky bugger). For the image, you just need to replace the image in use, or add a new image and direct it towards that from the info.json file.
i mean the mod manager tab. in it gives all the info for highdefs map template and not my map. ive changed a few files but they dont change what it says
Ah, that's different. That info comes from the repository. You'd need to package up your map in a zip file and submit it through the repository on the website first, get it approved (takes a few days) then subscribe to it as a mod.
