The Terrain Tool only raises the terrain, doesn't lower it

    Hi. When I choose the terrain Tool in the Editor Mode and press the left button on a scene, the terrain raises but I could't find a way to lower it to make holes and such (I tried some button combinations together with the LMB to no avail). People write that there's even a smooth function too but none of those functions (lower terrain, smooth terrain etc. are shown on my terrain tool).
    Please help
