My Civetta J58 mod is an IRL rebadge car. It's obvious why I rebadged it when you see what it is. Maybe add it to the list?

What prompted you to start including paywalled mods given that you didn't allow them to be on the list a few months ago?

 

good question, i have been thinking for a while whether to do that or not, not just from a moral perspective, but also from a legal one

considering that paywalled IRL car mods are seemingly being tolerated by the moderators on here, given that theres quite a few of them on here (at least until a DMCA strike hits them), i have decided to allow them to be in the list. You could say its for the sake of inclusion and consistency: If its an IRL car and it checks all the other boxes, it gets to be on the list - however, if a moderator would come up to me and tell me to remove them from the list, i wouldn't hesitate doing so
but i think its also a matter of transparency - my goal is to mainly show what exists on here, not encourage anyone to download, or worse yet, pay for anything (especially considering how overpriced they usually are) - which is also the reason why you may find mods of terrible quality or mods made by someone with a shady backstory on here - its up to you whether you are going to ̶w̶̶a̶̶s̶̶t̶̶e̶̶ ̶̶y̶̶o̶̶u̶̶r̶̶ ̶̶m̶̶o̶̶n̶̶e̶̶y̶̶ pay for an IRL car mod or not. To some extent, the bright pink tag intends to be a warning to anyone who could be interested in the mod

Thank you for your response, it's greatly appreciated. I agree, I think the paid mods spell out a very concerning future for this game's modding community (from my understanding that was the reason Ferrari wanted all their cars off of here in the first place). It used to be that the mods that were high quality, meshslaps, and/or exclusive were private mods intended for friends of the creator or YouTubers solely because the mod creator didn't want them on sketchy third-party sites. I don't think paying for it is reasonable in the slightest given that the game itself is already something you pay for and, as you mentioned, more often than not the quality of the mods do not amount to what you pay for. I will say as well that paying for "lore friendly" mods makes no sense to me either since their primary purpose is the being available on the repo for ease of access. I returned to this game in 2024 after a 2 year hiatus and I was honestly shocked that there were as many paid mods as there were. They've existed for a while but it seems they seemingly grew at an insane rate. I can somewhat understand wanting to get something early access but the mod simultaneously being posted on the forums and only being available on Gumroad, Kofee, etc. is very strange to me.

If that is why I understand. Just sucks cuz ppl are downloading my mod from Modland instead of here. I thought some advertising would make it more known it's here.

Yeah.....I see. If the certain brand were not so Cease and Desist happy, I would just upload it as is. This is why you cannot find that cars' brand mods on here. They Cease and Desist'd the Dev's (or something like that) and all those mods with the branding were purged from the site in 2023. The brand doesn't seem to mind if you rebadge and change features on the car. They just don't want their brands on it.
