Hello! This has been a WIP mod for the past week or so, and I feel it is time I can share it publicly and put it on the repo while I finish it up. The mod is almost fully functional, with retractable gear(WIP will be redone), flaps, openable canopy, and other plane stuff like wings and a propeller. KNOWN ISSUES: Gear suck, I'll work on those someday, landing and take off are difficult because of this. textures can be a little weird sometimes, wings sometimes shake during flight, not affecting controllability but looks weird from wing camera. LIST OF STUFF TO ADD: New gear, and Interior mesh with controls, CREDITS: Jbeam: Me (JGB), Jbeam assistance (by assistance I mean would not be a working mod without) ]@Shadow_Clan1965 for fixing the prop and engine, and assistance with almost everything else on this mod. GUNS: Made and edited by @Agent_Y Many thanks to him for making the guns work with this mod. Tracers: Made by @Shadow_Clan1965 ENGINE SOUNDS: Made by @Hell_Raiser_999 for his merlin v12 engine mod, found here https://www.beamng.com/resources/merlin-27l-v12-aircraft-engine-and-transmissions.29276/ Better textures thanks to @TwoTwoNineand@Shadow_Clan1965 MODEL: Free online, found here:https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/spitfire-mk-ixe-4bfb316cfc65457e9bc97346b3ccf591 "Spitfire Mk IXe" (https://skfb.ly/6txDP) by martinsifrar is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). CONTROLS: Throttle: T/G, Yaw: F/H, Pitch: Arrow Up/ Arrow Down, Flaps: N, Landing gear: B, Open Canopy: V, Fire Guns:Y Added mapped controls for Xbox controller: left joystick: pitch and roll, triggers: yaw, X: throttle up, A: throttle down, left button: Guns, DPAD Down: toggle flaps, DPAD Right, toggle gear. (no current control on controller for canopy, and DISCLAMER, you need to disengage the parking brake on keyboard until i figure out how to make custom brake controls. NOT A MESHSLAP, ORIGINAL JBEAM PLEASE MESSAGE ME OR REPLY TO THE THREAD TO LET ME KNOW OF ERRORS AND ISSUES, AS SOME HAVE BEEN SEEN LIKE CONTROLS MAY NOT MAP CORRECTLY Update: Tuned guns, they now shoot further and faster, added stupid looking crosshair on the top of the engine cowl, ignore the mesh it looks bad Update 2: Added tracers for guns, i reccomend aiming from the prop camera it is the easiest to see the tracers from. Redid the canopy, better, less shaking on it, and no longer passes through the fusleage. New Merlin V12 Engine sounds, tuned the prop to increase the top speed it can reach in a dive before it breaks, from my testing a safe dive speed is around 216mph, so not straight down but better than before. STATS: Turning speed: 165-180mph, Top speed: 205mph Please leave feedback and screenshots below! Sorry everyone, the thread doesn't want to load the mod file, so until the repo is approved no downloads right now
Thank you! If you have any issues with it, or want to suggest a fix and or feature your welcome to reply again!
I don't know if it's just me, but none of the controls work. Rebinding the canopy from M to something else might be a better choice since M is currently utilized by the game to open the map. I also noticed the textures looked washed out, this is because the files aren't processed through the texture cooker, I've attached a zip file with the textures rescaled to 4096 with the proper namings and pre-processed to DDS by the game, the main.materials.json inside is updated to path to them. For future reference: basecolormaps have the extension .color.png normalmaps have the extension .normal.png data maps (ao, opacity, metallic and roughness) have the extension .data.png Additionally I noticed credits for AgentY which aren't mentioned in the post, in case you've forgotten: Those are just some things I noticed, don't take me the wrong way I'm bad at laying tone across the internet This mod looks promising, I look forward to seeing this mod progress because we need more plane mods
Thank you for this, I will try to fix the textures, and I havent included credits to agent y yet because he may be helping me with getting working guns this week/weekend so i will add those in the update
Edit: nevermind, it seems when exporting there are options for compression and color scheme that i misses Hey, so I was editing the dds files in photoshop with a dds plugin, but when refreshing the textures everything looks washed out like beforehand, how did you make your textures work? --- Post updated --- New textures with removed decals --- Post updated ---
Hey man! This is an amazing mod. Do you think you could make a P-51 to go along with it? I would make one, but I can't mod for my life XD I've found a model, but it may be too high-poly for BeamNG. https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/p-51-1bdc49d325394746ba1905dc4c0b7b84 Update, I have found a lower-poly model! https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/p-51-low-ploy-fb4c5b00a7de40a2a8222ec3d049f0e8
I'm working on a Bf109 inspired plane, progress will be slow though. A P-51 sure would be cool though
I actually really like the higher poly model, as it already has an interior, and i think that beamng performance focuses more on the jbeam than the model, so it hsouldnt be to much of an issue. The only problem is that the high poly model isnt downloadable haha. Ill think about it! I was also thinking about after finishing my next project (A functional version of the plane from the utah runway) of doing an F4-U Corsair, so maybe!
I've always wanted an old fighter in beamng! --- Post updated --- couldn't get it to take off, I was very thrilled to see this, but it won't work --- Post updated --- hey maybe you could make a P-51 or F4U Corsair alongside Joelvb!
what seems to be the issue with it? it is difficult to take off, make sure to deploy flaps, n on keyboard, and make sure to hold t to throttle up fully, as i dont yet have a way to show the throttle amount without the throttle/brake gui app.
well, I tried taking off, and the plane was doing a sort of backflip and when it hit the ground, the engine broke.
in the name of god is this gona be a fun mod i havnt used beam for about half a year this is whats gona get me back into the game
very impressive. nice simple jbeam which is good for a plane. a little tricky to take off but doable, possible your torque reactions arent set up right either on your engine or the rotator for the propeller, and it could probably use a bit more yaw stability/authority to help keep it straight. I notice your fuselage tris have very little drag/lift coef, increasing that might help so the fuselage also provides some yaw stabilization. it flies pretty nice, perhaps slightly inherently unstable due to the COG being too far back, should be about inline with the main wing spar on the spitfire. great work overall. looking forward to see more of your work with planes, people dont often try to scratch jbeam these, let along get beyond the "i am going to make a plane" stage
