Hi all! This is my first time modding in BeamNG but I felt like even though the recent updates have made the game look a lot better visually, it still feels a little outdated but most importantly it feels unsaturated to my taste. The inspiration is a more unrealistic but pleasing style such as GTA V Progress so far: Theres more photos from this shoot here: https://imgur.com/a/7ezIaq8 The base look is mainly done, I'm pretty happy with how it looks, it right now looks very basic and I want to add some more effects like HDR, raytracing (potentially) and Depth of Field. However as of right now it is very unstable and causes the game to crash on startup. There is quite a bit of visual artifacting in some scenarios too. Also in terms of FPS drop it is very hit or miss with some scenes causing little to no frame drops and sometimes my frames being halved. I would love some feedback and I plan on releasing once its stable enough and it looks how I want it
Hi all!~ I've made some more progress in the last few days, mostly improving the lighting. But I've also added some new effects as well as improving reliability. First and foremost, it doesn't crash as much. The issue seems to be with Reshade versions, although I already was using an older version as I've read that it works better. It is now on the latest version. The frame drops are not as bad anymore. ~ New effects // Distance Depth of Field It is a very subtle effect but it helps a lot with BeamNG's subpar LOD. Before After // Mode1 Effectively it is sharpening, but it seems to fix aliasing too, I used one of the premade shaders for this. Before (No DoF) After (with DoF) // Ambient Lighting Again, one of the template shaders, instead of using my bloom shaders to get sky ambience, using this smoothed out the harsher lighting and weird artifacts that forcing brighter bloom brought. As you can see with the images below, the first scene is not too different, it just cranks the contrast up a little bit giving it a slightly more dynamic feel. The second image really highlights the difference with the skies ambience spilling onto the car. While this type of thing does not really happen in the real world, it gives a much more pleasing image (in my taste). Before After Thanks for reading! I hope to get working on it again (Uni has been rough lately ). Hopefully I'll get another update for ya'll in the next week!
DoF does nothing to overall gaming process but leading to less FPS. I wonder why that effect has to put into the game time after time.
Hey! Thanks for the input, as I stated above, I'm using the DoF very lightly in the distance (similar to how the game already uses it) just to cover the bad level of detail that BeamNG has for distant objects. Generally speaking you are correct as it doesn't really do much for improving the game, but it is a graphics mod soooo . It really is more of a screenshot thing if anything.
