So, theres lots of cool stuff being worked on, but not released because they're not quite done yet. Why don't we just reenable the experimental builds. I understand that some people are idiots who'll complain about a WIP being broken, but they'll find something to complain about either way. I think having the unfinished stuff is great, even if buggy.
Re: Release beta builds. I've seen tdev saying that it keeps crashing every few minutes, so I guess that realising this now isn't their top priority.
i have the experimental version on steam if you want experimental versions you rightclick on drive then you go to properties and then you go ro betas and then you musz cjange it to every beta then you normally would have experimental
I guess it's because the current changes are so massive (UI is a massive work, Important changes to time physics, etc) that even a weekly build wouldn't be enough to make a playable version (by playable I mean something that does crash every 2 minutes). So instead of people going full dumb mode about "experimental crashing/not working/bugs) thus happened.
Even the current stable build has lots of bugs. For example, the waypoints AI doesn't really even work properly now. A ton of people would make threads about bugs and crashes, and an experimental build would be generally very unstable. I think the devs are making the right decision to not release an experimental.
Do you want to lose the ability to select vehicles, change their colors, or change options? Because that's what you'd get if we released an update right now. You'd also have a menu bar stuck on the left side of your screen that won't close.
Being stuck with the same vehicle without being able to change it, a menu that won't close, part selector that won't work seems quite severe. And just imagine the number of people going nuts if they get that, because they pretend to have a functional experimental..
I am okay with waiting for a more fleshed out update like the last one, as long as you keep us up-to-date with what you are currently working on(which you do very very well) It also keeps a level of hype in the air...Just never go full "Bugbear" and talk to the comunity once a week. Good luck with the developement!
Meh I at least want a useable game, some early car releases would be cool, but just like when the sunburst was out early I never really used it more than a few hours on release day..
Im pretty sure most people are against an experimental version of the game at this moment. Remember, Experimental was an experiment in and of itself. Personally, just so long as beamng gets updated at a reasonable frequency, i dont want an experimental version.
I have no issues with what the devs are doing program wise because in essence the entire thing is an experiment. I always have and always will however advocate vigorously for consistent dev communication with the community. Since January things have been wonderful and I hope it continues. It's kept my mouth shut and focused on the fun and learning while simultaneously quelling fears of the program going sideways.
Does having two versions slow the development time by a lot? How do you know? I'd like to claim the exact opposite. Anyways, I think that having an experimental build next to the stable one is fine, unless it slows the development itself significantly down. I always had the experimental version, because it had new features and all that jazz. I suppose the devs are right for now, we wouldn't exactly need a nearly completely dysfunctional game. I mean I'm fine with a few crashes more, as the supposedly stable version does not always live up to its name, which in turn is understandable for an alpha. One thing I am really disappointed by in the last update is the fact that the AI always crashes despite having waypoints. I haven't checked out Port a Derby Arena yet, though I doubt the AI can drive there without crashing every minute. Just to clarify, I am not disappointed by the devs. I simply assumed that the AI paths were good enough to drive infinitely, or at least for a long time. Can we expect a working race function as well as random mode in the next big update? Sorry for being impatient, but I was so thrilled to play 'Search and Destroy' with the Police car against non-suspecting AI opponents once I read the patchnotes, I acted like the infamous 'UT kid' while the update was downloading. Well, only on the inside, but this should give everyone a good representation of how badly I want to play with functional AI paths.
Can everyone just shut up and wait for greatness rather than rant for crap.. If it is so severe that the game would be so unplayable that 90% of players who care about the game or want fun would revert versions, why would they want to release that at all, it is a waste of effort and time. As far as I am concerned these are my fav features to be had -Rotating Jbeam Spawns -Racing AI I can wait for a month if I have to in order to obtain the new vehicles, I couldn't care less. I'd rather wait a mildly shorter and less stressful [For Devs] time than wait forever and experience broken steps on the stairway to the better to get there. And having incremental stable updates is better for content creation.
I don't see why having the UI broken is such a huge issue. I can just spawn something in through the f11 menu. The inconvenience is worth the benefit of the new features, not to mention the beta build server is already up and running, shouldn't take any real Dev effort to give access to everybody again. If people want the stable, they can use it. Enabling the experimental won't hurt anybody.
How can you say that when majority of users would go the ease of use route making it a waste of the devs time to release it and making the dev cycle more annoying At times I swear the community is the cancer of this game. Also what features are you even talking about, right now half of the features are either already in our version in a primitive or 80% already broken form, so why release it in a more utterly rubbish way. It is the same reason why my D-15 Derby isn't out yet, I am waiting to make it more polished rather then release only to see the wrath of a gun barrel when I receive major backlash in some way or something dumb. Edit: "not to mention the beta build server is already up and running, shouldn't take any real Dev effort to reenable." Well they would still have to give us only the features that they see as appropriate for the community to see in-game at the stage, and then they would have to compile the build for public release. Time, Time, Time.
Don't have a link right now, but in the micro blogs they talked about the build server which automatically uploads builds. All that's required is basically unchecking a box to make it no-longer password protected. And cancer? That's a bit strong for a suggestion you don't agree with.
