Do you think that this work which was certainly done for weeks or even months cannot reward the creator? If you make a 3D model for months, with problems, days to fix them, months to polish it and add it to the game, you'll want an offset. It isn't weird, you just don't know that this is a common extension in 3D. Unlike OBJ, it supports animations. Also if you want to port it into BeamNG, make sure you have permission from the original author, and for BeamNG export it to DAE. Make also a proper jbeam structure for it, meshslaps are annoying and need to stop.
Yeah I think it too, making a car (without turning it into a meshslap) takes a long time, sometimes over a year.
It was originally free --- Post updated --- and the weird .fbx files forced me to use an importer instead of the built it one
