There was this weird vehicle in one of the episodes of SpongeBob... One day I was very bored and modelled it in Blender. Recently I had a bit of free time after exams and I put it in game which took like 3 days, because I was very curious what it would be like to drive it and crush stuff with it. It's not the highest effort but it does the job. What exactly is this thing though? Most people think it's a steamroller, but a more sensible theory is that it's meant to be a mobile trash compactor like the one on the image below. It's most likely meant to be used exclusively on junkyards, as it's not street legal at all, having no lights, license plates, mirrors, etc. And extremely poor visibility. In game it's pretty decent at this job, only not too stable due to having these cartoony proportions. Video of operation attached. You can also do a demolition derby with it if you want, you will always win unless the opponent is another spike roller. Various features: Roughly 4 tons of weight, almost 100 km/h top speed. Probably way more powerful than it should be but it's more fun this way. The model has outlines like a cartoon drawing, you can disable them using a skin. The main body is a boat, and it can float when all other parts are removed, when they aren't it's too heavy and will sink. It is also made of wood. As it made no engine sound in the show, I made it electric with a front motor and rear mounted battery for better weight distribution (both motor and battery are invisible because lazy). For better maneuvering, it steers with the rear wheels. Combined with FWD drivetrain, the handling is interesting. Suspension is invisible, it's solid axle coil spring front and back, not very stiff as irl this would have to go on rough terrain which is hard with such tiny wheels. Using the rolles as extra wheels helps with offroading. In the show the vehicle has no windshield. This is not very practical because the debris from the shredded garbage would be flying right in the driver's face. So I added a windshield that can be rolled down with node grabber to look the same way as in the show. Due to how it looks in the show, the door collides with the inner wall of the boat when open, barely fitting a person. So I didn't bother even making it openable. In the show it has only a single arm, except for the last shot where it has two. I went for two as it makes more sense. Included key bindings allow you to move any segment of the roller holding armsup or down, limited to angles that make sense. It does allow the vehicle to completely shred itself if you want. The rollers themselves control like the large roller prop they are based on. They are quite heavy to be stable, but still as light as I could possibly make them for the vehicle to drive reasonably well. Around 650kg for the arms + rollers assembly. Due to the weight being so front biased, invisible 1 ton counterweight has been added to the back. It doesn't prevent the thing from tipping over though. Did I mention that this vehicle is great at shredding lego cars? Have fun with it! Btw as usual you have permission to modify it and use parts of it in other mods with credit.
The thing is awesome to drive and really funny. I'd like to report something. The Arms can only be operated in a certain order and not casually like first the end one and then the start. Also, I got from the description of the mod, I should be able to use the rollers. This doesn't happen though, I binded some other keys to increase RPM but nothing. Maybe when I come back to the mod I'll try something else...
This is hilarious, absolutely something I'd expect to see from you Also the way that you did the cartoon outlining is genius, gotta love it.
"At least he had his seatbelt on" got me good. Any reason why it doesn't have an window on the right side though?
If you look at it in the original scene, judging from the perspective, it either doesn't have one or has an extremely tiny one obstructed by the A pillar. I tested what it would look like but it was very goofy, no window at all makes more sense so I decided on that.
