    Not sure how to word as i haven't written one of these in a while but basically

    An option to allow for straight cut gears to be used in a transmission. It could simply be an "transmissiongearcut" : "straight" or "straightcutgears" : "true" or "false" and by selecting either the "true" or "straight cut gears" options it would add in a straight cut gear whine you hear in race cars. Seeing as there are so many cars with race transmissions in the game (as well as mods), this would be quite a cool feature, further adding to the immersion and realism of the game.

    EDIT : An option for a straight cut gear sound for reverse in civilian cars would be cool as well (thanks to @Michaelflat for mentioning this idea)

    Thanks for reading

    agreed. the gear whining is a big part of what a racecar sounds like.
    since we now have different sounds for the outside and inside of the car this should be possible.

    if they add straight cut gears in gearboxes they should be more eficcient too, because racecars don't have straight cut gears just for the noise

    I'm glad this thread is gaining a bit of traction, but it would be nice if a Dev could give some insight into this feature.
    @tdev, Any word on this?

    Yeah, straight cut tranny could be a little lighter on the drivetrain parasitic draw and overall be lighter.

    The 4 speed in the highest trim Barstows and Moonhawks could have straight cut 1st 2nd and 3rd gears too. Just like the old muncie "rockcrushers"

    Excellent idea :)

    Are you sure old domestic muscle cars had straight cut gears?

    Only a specific model of the muncie 4 speed; the M22. (That I'm aware of at least).
    They also weren't entirely straight cut, but rather semi-helical. Stronger than fully helical gears, quieter than straight cut gears. Basically a direct compromise. (There is some conflicting info on them, but they are known for howling, hence the nickname, "rock crusher")

    They were only put in at the factory for top of the line high output sports/muscle cars, and even then they were rarely optioned.

    Also note that almost every manual car in reverse has straight cut gears

    Straight cut gearboxes, especialy for race spec vehicles, should behave differently from the regular gearboxes and revmatching, and shifting without the use of the clutch should be included
    There could also be sequential versions that still have a regular clutch but you only use to shift down and to set off initialy
