Hey everyone, my game get this intermittent framerate drop, seems to happen after 2-3mins of continuous play. I tried unchecking PostFX, lowered settings, lowered resolution, nothing! I get a solid constant 60FPS then suddenly drops to 15FPS. CPU temp is below 60 deg, GPU temp tops 80 deg, CPU and RAM usage never hits 100% this is the only game I play that has this issue, and it happened after I made the switch to the Steam version of the game, before it was running really smooth. Here's a video I made showing the problem Can anyone help me resolve this problem? Thank you in advance! :)

I think you have confused us with this... Does this happen with cars like the Covet? And try with a mod from the beamNG forums called Toyota corolla sprinter. It runs full frames on some lower end systems, so I want to see if its car based or if its something else.

I have tried it with all the cars, it seems like it's more of a map issue, the issue occurs faster on Hirochi raceway (around 2-5 minutes) than canyons of speed (around 20-30 minutes). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game and still no luck, running out of options :(

The processor posted in your signature is kinda worrying me... I dont know much about it and I cant tell you if it is good enough for beamNG or not.
    I have something for you to try;
When these FPS drops occur, Pause the physics IMMEDIATELY(Press J,) And if the FPS goes up, Its a hardware issue, particularly your CPU, but could be something else.
If it doesnt, then you have outsmarted me at the moment.

Install hardware monitor. Make note of the temps when you start playing, as you play and when the lag sets in. Do for both CPU and GPU.

Sounds like a case of thermal throttling.

goes up by 5 fps when I do that, CPU is fine 45% while playing, I have the logitech G15 keyboard and I could see what my CPU and RAM is doing. I can play BF4 with this CPU with around 75% usage..

CPU temp never sees 60 it's cooled with a H80i liquid cooler, I think it's the GPU, I noticed that the GPU temp hit 80 degrees and the usage dipped to 20% and that's when it happened.. Info taken with GPU-Z... I will clean the GPU and see what happens, it's been also hot here in California for the past week (94 degrees).

UPDATE: I cleaned the GPU, tweaked the fan curve of the fan with EVGA Precision X, temps stayed around 62 degrees (66 tops) but the lag still happened...

Your CPU is still worrysome to me...
But if you can run BeamNG normally fine, then lets try something else.
Turn on BeamNG, and have the task manager open. Then, While playing, when the FPS drops occur, see if anything is taking up memory. Even though you have a decent Intel CPU, you still may take hits from other tasks while playing BeamNG. Make sure this isnt the case, and if anything is hitting you up, try deactivating it.

I've got a similar issue, but it doesn't only affect BeamNG, it happens on all Steam games.

I recently compared the old version (as of June '14) to the most recent Steam Version. Both on the Grid maps with the jumps and bumps and stuff, with the normal D15, with similar settings.
The older version got between 15-20 FPS (not good, I know)
the new, Steam version, gets from 8-10, with drops every few seconds down to 1, or zero.

Like I said, It happens on all steam games of mine, some are worse than others, but still.
ETS2, TF2, GMOD, they all have awful lag spikes.

I had a cracked version of ETS2 before, (I know, I know) and it played perfectly fine, averaging roughly 35-40 FPS.
Then I bought the game properly through Steam, and on the same settings, on the same saved game even, it struggled to get 20, with drops to 5-10 FPS.

I can't find any help on this, best I can tell is that the CPU is bottle necking, but why would it only affect Steam games?

    Re: Intermittent lag/Framerate drop

SOLVED IT! It was in fact thermal throttling! Turned it off in the BIOS and now the game runs a solid 60 FPS. Thank you Driv3r1142 for sticking around andSixSixSevenSeven for the idea. Peterbilt try what I did and disable thermal throttling, make sure your CPU cooler is clean and what not first so your CPU won't overheat.
