i have a fx 8350 and it can run the game good enough, so i think the 1700 is going to run perfectly fine, but dont forget about your graphics card. also, what hardware are you running at the moment?

i was asking about ryzen because it's a new generation (and lithography) so the 8350 info is irrelevant. apart from that i have a 4690k (@4.2ghz) and a 1060 6gb.

Ryzen is amazing. Price to performance is great. For 200 bucks which is what I spent on a i5 6500 at the time, the Ryzen 5 1600 is 200 bucks as well and it's much much faster.

ryzen 1500x here. no lag until 8 cars :p and with 8 cars it runs 50-60fps just fine. Really happy with my cpu. But you gotta overclock it.

Choose your ram wisely tho. Ryzen sometimes has compitability issues with ram.

If you are tight on money you could also get the corsair lpx 2x8gb 3000mhz ram and spend more on your gpu.

Ryzen 1600 here, running at 3.8 GHz. Been playing The Fair Grounds-mod and been able to spawn 14 cars total (my + 13 AI cars) into the gameplay and it runs 45-80 fps all the time. Going further into 15 or 16 cars crashes the game, propably stability issues. BananaBench gives me all 20 cars and 200 JBeams/s

Official figures is it matches 6900k performance (x99 platform) clock for clock* within half-a-percent, margin of error.
As tested, 2133mhz dual channel memory on Ryzen, 2400mhz quad-channel on intel system, both Windows 10, x64. This was a Ryzen 1700x, (edited, corrected) it's the eight-core for sure.
With 2933mhz dual channel memory on Ryzen (new BIOS update), it increased the performance by 10%.

*All other things equal, The Ryzen doesn't quite always clock as high, but you can still get most all of them to max out at 3.8~4.125ghz which is what most everyone gets out of a 6900k cpu, both the Ryzen and intel 6900k cpu have 8 cores and 16 threads. Regardless, you don't NEED more performance per-core than the Ryzen offers, outside of special-use scenarios, with today's games. The Ryzen is enough to run a pile of BELAZ mining trucks smoothly, or a bunch of T-series trucks.

Ram used was CL 15 (CL = CAS Latency), 2933mhz, vs CL 16 2133 on Ryzen 1st test, vs CL 15 2400mhz (quad channel) on intel x99 6900k test. All motherboards were ASUS branded motherboards, current BIOS.
So take your pick, the Ryzen will save you a lot, and let you have more money for a video card, and SSD, which will help the other aspects of system performance, so your new CPU won't be waiting around for all the other things inside the box.

You will crash Beamng.drive physics lua before you run out of power to run cars or cores to run cars, so pick either.

With as much as Ryzen loves fast memory performance here, I would really keep an eye out for AMD THREADRIPPER CPU, coming out in August, with 8~32 cores available, and twice as many threads, and quad-channel memory performance, this should really be something. It's like a server CPU in a home computer, with 3~4ghz clocks on those cores, better performance-per-watt than intel, and a much better price, I am very eager to see how THAT performs in Beamng.drive.
Scene rendering using Raytracing is very indicative of what Beamng.drive performance is like, as is the old, retired WHETSTONE benchmark.

... "But will it run [ms-dos!] Doom?" ... I surely think so!

--Had to say it -- Cheers!

Edited to correct cpu model(s), and typos. Stupid me. Article still stands/is valid.

People definitely could concider of having Threadripper, if the maximum multicore performance is their goal and to have as many cores as possible. However, as you stated already, Ryzen CPU's are more than enough for BeamNG already, so no matter which one you choose, you will be good with it. And the game's engine will get optimized more, is of course it gets even faster and capable in the future. This is good news towards the gaming companies, because now, there is affortable CPU's available, that many more people can buy and perform gaming on it very well.

    Hey guys
just wanted to share my BeamNG experience with my Ryzen 1700x too.
It is just amazing. Before I had an AMD Phenom II (4x3,4GHz) CPU. I could not even spawn a third car without heavy lags.
And now I can do things like in my attached pictures :D.

    GPU: GTX 970
    RAM: 32GB @ 2933MHz
