Why Top Gear Season 15 Episode 1 is one of my favorite episodes where Jeremy Clarkson drives the Reliant Robin 14 miles of pure hilarity. And after searching the forum I discovered that the only three wheeled vehicle being attempted to be made was the Ibishu Pigeon(at the time). So I decided to start my first BeamNG project based on the Reliant Robin(*not a smart idea in hindsight). Summary The Reliant Robin is a small three-wheeled car formerly manufactured by the Reliant Motor Company in Tamworth, England. It is markedly different from most mainstream cars due to its fibreglass bodyshell and compact three-wheeled platform which allow it a special taxation and licensing class under British regulations. -Wikipedia To-do List Finish body mesh 97.5% Split mesh 100% Model Engine & Transmission 100% Model Interior Details 30% Model Steering Details 100% Finish Suspension Detail 100% Make Materials Create JBeams *Not Started *In Progress *Finished Current Progress -EDIT- 2/1/14 Here is an update, I have nearly finished the basic mesh of the body. I now need to add detail; headlights, taillights, gauges, ect. I have finally put the mesh in game. The scale is way too big, but this is a step in the right direction. . -EDIT- 2/4/14 I haven't worked much on the model, but I did finish the front lights and grill and I have also gotten permission to use Gabester's Ibishu Covet seats, I removed the headrests from the seats to match the Reliant Robins seats. I now have the model properly scaled in game. Modeled the engine and transmission, also split the mesh making a hood. -EDIT- 2/19/14 I modeled new wheels with better detail and different hubcaps. Steelies Dome Deluxe I have also remade the rear axle with u-bolts to attach to the leafs, and I have also made a drive shaft. edit #2 I created the basic steering assembly, it still needs to be detailed. -EDIT- 2/24/14 I modeled the tail lights and and finished splitting the mesh.
Re: Reliant Robin Nice But how does the steering work? It looks similarly based to the Pigeon, so I guess you could wait for the Race update to get released and base the n/b off that. I suggest you look at this: http://wiki.beamng.com/Content_Creation It's not really as basic as 'importing' into the game, it's actually harder than the modelling process in most cases, but don't let that put you off.
Re: Reliant Robin Steering is completely different from the Pigeon, unfortunately. The real Robin uses MacPherson struts, which aren't possible to simulate yet
Re: Reliant Robin Thank you. The steering is a push pull system, pushing turns left and pulling turns right. - - - Updated - - - From the images I have been looking at, it looks like the suspension is connected straight to the control arm not hub.
Re: Reliant Robin Maybe you're right, it's hard to tell. Either way it wouldn't make much difference since it's effectively a sideways strut so the camber location isn't really camber. It's probably just a swing arm.
Re: Reliant Robin I was about to say; UGH! another project on hold because of those dastardly things!
Re: Reliant Robin The greatest community vehicle project yet! Can't wait to race this and the Pigeon around.
Re: Reliant Robin Only problem I see other than the obvious strut issue. It's fiberglass, this engine doesn't really simulate fiberglass, or really any rigid brittle material that shreds apart on impact. It's kind of similar with aircraft too, only that its very very thin thin aluminum sheeting with a aluminium frame. IRL they break apart on impact, not really possible to simulate. Which raises the question I don't think I've seen answered yet, have you guys (the devs) come up with any rough idea's how to simulate that, or is it looking pretty well impossible to simulate both malleable and brittle materials?
Re: Reliant Robin You can break meshes at the moment by enabling it, so it'll be fine if set up properly...
Re: Reliant Robin Just...wow...watching that top gear video, you have GOT to be kidding me. Who ever approved such a design? Did they even drive it prior to unleashing this deathtrap to the public? Shameful. Almost as bad as the Nissan GTR.
Re: Reliant Robin Pretty sure that the first pic is Hednesford, can't tell where the other ones are, the pits in the last one look a bit like Arena Essex, although they all might have been taken at Hednesford.
Re: Reliant Robin It's top gear and it was obvious he was driving like an asshole... they flip easier than a regular small car such as a mini yes but not unless you drive like an idiot. And the Nissan GTR is a great car
Re: Reliant Robin Well, the whole point of Top Gear is to drive things like an idiot... And bash "poor" caravans and cars that are not sporty
Re: Reliant Robin Wow! I just made one of these for an older game (imported from here) Yours is looking great so far! Keep it up
