Started working on a pack of sounds converted from various other games and figured it's progressed enough to put a thread up and gauge interest. The approach I'm taking with this mod is realistic above gamified/exciting - for example most stock inline 3 and 4 exhausts produce little more than the sound of blowing air with a bassy undertone that vaguely hints at the number of cylinders it has, with the ticking of the engine side providing most of the noise (at least for idles). The progression through sport, tuned, and race exhausts will add bass and rasp, or swap out new samples, to keep in line with the performance upgrades. I'm purposefully being rather picky with my sourcing and EQing to make sure everything feels right, building from smooth, quiet commuter cars all the way up to obnoxious tuner cars or trackday machines. Check out the progression I'm working on for Cherrier's petrol engines: Gavril's diesel V8: And both of Hirochi's flat-4s: Actual volume balancing isn't necessarily final, feedback on everything is welcome. Update 2024-03-09: I've been on a bit of a break from Beam lately, and I figured rather than let it sit semi-abandoned, I may as well at least release a beta as-is - that way when I do come back to it there might be more feedback for me to take into account as well. Impressed with the quality, I'm already following the project, my feedback is about the sound of the Vivace's i4 2.0 which could be a little better and the sound of the SBR4's 2.0 F4 has a bit of white noise at high rpm
Love it already! I like the fact that you are aiming towards realistic sounding cars and not making them sound like straight piped. I believe the Vivace's race exhaust on the 4 cylinder engines should be improved, they sound quite "robotic" if you know what I mean, but everything else is spot on, can't wait for further updates on this
very nice audio quality, although i feel the stock exhaust sounds shouldnt have been left vanilla, even though stock exhaust sounds are hard to find online
I know what you mean, hearing it back when I was editing the video it did sound a little strange, but I left it to see what others would think. Possibly just one of those cases of being too deep into something to step back and have a fresh take on it. See above for the 2.0 unless you mean one of the non-race sounds. 2.0 F4 at high RPM I can look into, although I really like the source sound I used for it so I'm hoping not to have to change the entire thing out. Nothing in the videos is vanilla besides the engine-side audio on the 2.0 Flat 4.
good to see you here --- Post updated --- yeah i really liked the sound of SBR4, but yes the 2.0 Race Exhaust Sound at high rpm sounds like having some white noise
Feedback on the SBR one is definitely useful. Might just be something that I can EQ out or at least just tweak the highest end samples rather than editing the entire sound. Some new ones to show, starting with the ETK 3.0 I6, which progresses from a fairly stock sounding BMW I6, with the sport exhaust adding some more bass, up to the ttSport variant which swaps over to a full-fat M4 sound: And the stock Ibishu DOHC sound. Very happy with the idle on this one, the plan is to again have a very airy sounding stock exhaust, which will then be swapped out for a sporty sound with the appropriate exhausts once I find a good candidate:
yeah i really liked the sound of SBR4, but yes the Race Sound at high rpm sounds like good to know. and i liked the Covet Sound and new i6 sounds (could you add more variations? like adding sounds based from N55 or B58 too? to mix in between ETK-800 and K-Series)
I'd be tempted to add more sounds if we had more German I6 engines, but right now we only have the one and I prefer keeping it like a sort of N55 to S55 transition.
These sound pretty good, but I noticed a bit of waviness in the transitions between samples on the Ibishu DOHC sound.
sounds good, especially the I6, i would maybe go for something a bit more sporty sounding for the DOHC and also fix the RPM syncing issues (that others have pointed out) i would be interested to know what other games you got these sounds from because i don't recognise any besides the B4 ones, although i dont know where i recognise them from.
Once again, it sounds amazing! The ETK's I6 vanilla sound really needed a refresh and you've done it perfectly, perhaps when it comes to the I-Series, you could try to make it sound like an E36. One suggestion, if you could add more agressive (but nothing too ridiculous) turbo sounds to the stage 2 and 3 turbochargers would be awesome! The Ibishu DOHC sounds really nice aswell
Hearing it back I notice there's a bit of dissonnance where they don't quite blend as the tach crosses 6,000, if that's what you're referring to? That usually happens when the claimed RPM of the sample I use doesn't quite match the actual one, e.g. a sample recorded at 6,500 labelled 6,000. Should be an easy enough fix if that's all it is. As for game sources, a mix of everything really. Most sounds so far have been from 360-era Forza titles, but the exhaust of the new M4 sound is from The Crew Motorfest and the engine of the DOHC sound is from GT Sport. E36 isn't a bad idea, I was thinking more along the lines of an E9 but I suppose one could work for each engine on the I Series. I've never looked into turbo sounds yet but should be doable, blowoff sounds are just a simple one-shot type thing. Some new clips, this time a sputtery old classic I4 sound for the Miramar's SOHC engine: And a nice chunky modern V8 sound for the ETK 4.4 V8 - ttSport is essentially the stock exhaust for every trim that features the 4.4:
yeah thats what im referring to, ive been sound modding for years now so ive had plenty of experience with RPM related issues and theyre pretty easy to solve, but noticeable if theyre left alone.
Following this thread! I love the sounds, especially compared to the stock Beamng sounds! Not that I think stock is bad, but there is room for improvement (especially with in the realism dept.)
Appreciate the feedback. I'm plodding on with some more new sounds before going back and revisting existing ones based on feedback, so have the new modern Bruckell V8s (5.7 and 6.5 separately) and the Civetta V10. These don't swap sounds per exhaust level, just the standard EQ tweaks, so one video for each.
Loved the New sound, one question, did you use a V10 Odd firing for the V10 sound? I really wanted to see what a V10 Even Firing sound would be like on the M5 V10 and LFA in the game
I used the even-firing Audi 5.2 V10 for the Scintilla, since to me it's what the vanilla sound was trying to sound like. The M5 is an odd-firing engine and I do have good sources for both that and the LFA, but honestly there's nothing in the game to really use them on. I'm open to having my sound override sounds from other mods (for instance in my local copy I've already tweaked the 1.8T on the VW Golf MK4 and Skoda Octavia mods) but not sure if there's anything that would suit these engines.
