If I go into steam on my main computer, use steam rollback to go to an older version, then copy the older version files to a flash drive, then plug the drive on there and run the game on the computer (just the launcher), would that be ok? No one else has access to the computer but me? And I can remove the files if needed. The actual gameplay will be recorded on my main PC.
Yes, he can connect it to the internet but forget about using Steam to download the old versions, unless you mean the tech demo.
Steam is no longer supported on XP 7 8 and 8.1. Theoretically you could transfer the files and use a steam E******* to play it. It does not work with any new versions though so don't try it. Never Ever share any of the steam files with anyone.
Version 0.4.0.6 was the last version to support DirectX 9, the last official DirectX for XP was 9.0c meaning this version is your stopping point without some unofficial solutions. If you're curious the system requirements from back in the day (2013ish) suggest the following as minimum: CPU: Dual-core processor RAM: 4GB GPU: Something better than integrated graphics (at least 512MB Video RAM) Windows 7 but under that it suggests the following even lower specs could probably run it as well CPU: Single Core RAM: Less than 4GB GPU: integrated graphics cards: old intel laptop onboard cards, etc Windows: below Vista (Works on Windows XP - may not be fully supported) BeamNG running on XP was probably more a of a novelty because realistically any machine that was at least hitting those minimum requirements probably would have been running Windows 7 during that timeframe anyways. I don't think anything below those minimum specs would have been a great playable experience. At the time I believe my Windows 7/8.1 PC 's specs hit somewhere between minimum and recommended, it played okay for me. TL;DR: Early versions of Beam NG technically will run on Windows XP. Of course this would still be hilarious to see, I've got a slightly nicer XP machine from the end of the XP days that does almost hit those minimum specs so I think I'll go try the old tech demo on it.
