Problem I have with BeamMP

I recently downloaded BeamMP, and the multiplayer option shows up on the game's main menu now. However, when i try to join a server, i see a message that says "The game is not connected to the launcher! Please start the launcher and press the connect button or restart the game using the launcher". i'm confused, because I always open the game with the launcher. any ideas as to how this problem could be solved?
