OK, another suggestion from me; Precision steering mode. (If you play Ship Simulator Extremes, you know what it is). You turn it on in the options, and for keyboard, it prevents the auto-center for the steering wheel. This would make keyboard a bit more bearable.
OK, another suggestion from me; use a different controller. Keyboard should be removed as it is just there to be able to play the game when you lack other input devices (joking on the removal in case it isn't obvious). You want better steering? Either get that one mod that smoothed keyboard input or wait for the devs to add input smoothing or get a proper input device. It's a vehicle simulator and not Call of Duty. I imaging your suggested input method to be extremly hard to predict in which direction the wheels steer resulting in absolute lack of control and handling.
Cira why are you so harsh ? I think thats a quite good idea to add a few steering modes for keyboard inputmap as some people prefer using their trusty ol' keyboards or just don't want to buy a controller only to use it in this game.
Cira, you obviously don't get what OP was saying. This could be done with some code edits and I think it would be kind of cool to try.
I'm not stopping anyone from doing it. I just think it will handle worse than it does currently on keyboard.
It is really useful in Spintires because a lot of the time there you spend aligning your wheels correctly to fit in a gap between some trees, climbing ledges etc. and if the wheels kept autocorresting themselves, it would be frustrating.
It works for that yes. But driving on the open roads or plains in that game is super fucking sketchy, worse still on the narrow roads at speed. Driving fast is a more precise art than damn beamng. Oh and gamepads just change the speed at which the wheels turn, still no self centering. While it works for technical sections in spintires, I wish there was a toggle betweennit and normal steering.
