Paid Mods are often talked about in the BeamNG community, and there are arguments for and against, but what about the ones done for charity, not for profit? I don't think there is anything like this in the BeamNG community yet, but have there been any examples of this kind of charity in other games, either individually or in community groups? The reason I wanted to post this is that I found out about speedrun charity events like Games Done Quick (GDQ), although not related to the mod. It would be nice to have something like that for the gamemod community to give to charity as well.
I'm quite convinced that paid mods are made for profit. Compare it to any other hobby – DIY people earn lots of money on sites like Etsy, and very often the price consists mostly of their effort rather than materials. When you compare it to the very few paid mods, their authors are low-balling themselves. So, while the idea of charity-aimed mods sounds cool, I feel like it wouldn't benefit anyone, really. Knowing how hesitant people are towards buying mods, the raised amount wouldn't be much substantial, and the modder in question wouldn't benefit from it either. You may as well just donate to any charity right now. Also, BeamNG is also sold on Humble Bundle, so if you got your copy there you're already helping.
