Pacific Coast So, this is the beginning of a project of mine. I've always felt like that this game needed some scenic roads and always loved the winding roads on the map Pacific Coast made by Phoenix Mods in Assetto Corsa. So here is some background and general information about this map: "This is a 23km section of real roads on California Highway 1, one of the great all-American roads on the scenic West Coast, and is widely considered among the best driving roads in the world. Also known as Big Sur, the route winds along the rugged California coastline (from Cape San Martin to Ragged Point), this region has one of the States’ most dangerous highways. Driving can be intense with narrow, single lanes and some sections having 700ft drops and no guard rails at the edge, leaving little room for error. The Southbound section is considered the most ideal to drive, as you are on the ocean side the entire way, allowing unobstructed views of the jagged coastline below and the Pacific ocean off to the horizon." Progress So far I've been able to port the map from AC to Beamng, using Blender, got the map to work, however, there are a couple of things that need to be done, one being the houses/guardrails and some other details and buildings (this I can do with no problem at all). The last thing that needs to be worked on is the texture and materials, two things that I need help with as I don't have that much experience with the world editor (actually this is my first project lol), so yeah, if anyone could help me out on that, I would appreciate! Here are some screenshots of what has been done so far: Credits: -Phoenix Mods for the maps itself So this is it, waiting for your feedback and help if possible
Is there permission from the original guy? I don't want to see this going sideways over some bullshit permission issues, and I know it will. I don't have much expectations left for these so called modding "communities" anymore, no fault towards you.
Don't worry, I asked permission for it. Also if there are any problems related to that I will take down the thread, hopefully nothing goes sideways, I'm just a guy trying to bring some content to the game and needs help with some stuff, either way, thank you for your concern.
Looks cool! Feel free to send a message my way if you need help, I have a lot of experience porting and working with maps like this
Hey man! I saw this post while looking to see if there where any ports of this map. I would love to drive it in BeamNG drive, is the project still going? Would love to know!
I wish I could finish it, but I've lost the files, at the time, I managed to finish everything but the textures. I really struggled with them. Perhaps one day I will start again, but no guarantees
I was hoping this would eventually land on the forum, hopefully we could get L.A. Canyons brought here, properly.
There is a LA Canyons map somewhere out there, very good quality and working traffic, however, for low end PCs, it isn't very friendly. I believe it wasn't released here to the forum but released on Modland (I think)
Already had a feeling from the start that it wouldn't go anywhere. --- Post updated --- Thank god for that LA Canyons map. Makes up for this never being finished, and I would honestly rather have that one over this anyway. Already found it.
Well this is funny to see especially with the fact how I've been working on my own pchwy port recently
that la canyons map is mainly the reason why pacific coast will never be able to get ported. it contributed to the author quitting assetto modding (it used assets from the paid expansion, with no permission)
Hey azureskies, I sent you a friend request on Discord, I'd love to talk about your version of the project, will you accept?
Did you actually receive permission in the end, and did he say anything about whether or not AI traffic would be allowed in the BeamNG conversion? I know you are no longer working on it, but it would be good to know if permission was granted so that somebody else could redo the conversion if they want.
The author of pacific coast highway does not grant permission to anyone for the port and probably will not be giving out permission for a long time. --- Post updated --- Assuming this thread was made back in 2022, phoenix may have granted them permission back then, however since it was never finished I think the perms basically expired
Firstly, this isn't the right place to make requests like this. Who are you asking for a Bucharest map? Me? AzureSkies? The OP? Secondly, making BeamNG maps, at least from scratch, is a big effort; people generally make mods for themselves (because there is a car or region they personally really want to see in the game) and the ability to share it with the community is just a bonus. If there is a Bucharest map for another racing game (and make sure you have permission from the rights holder if you want to redistribute the converted version), converting it to Beam should be easy as long as it is small, like a racetrack; optimising large maps with LODs and such and breaking the large 3D models into chunks to run at an acceptable framerate is the hard part. You can follow this tutorial series for an Assetto Corsa map; converting from other video games should be somewhat similar but the steps to unpack the data files will be different. If there isn't a map you can convert, BlenderOSM can quickly create models of real places that you can export to Beam like converted AC assets, but you will need to edit the roads by hand to prevent them from being unrealistically bumpy, and either replace the generic buildings with ones you found elsewhere or hit the road in Bucharest and take lots of photos for textures if you want it to look decent. You can also create maps from scratch using the Terrain Editor but I have no experience with that; however, tutorials are available if you look them up.
