This is an about 390 square mile map with about 280 miles of highway, stretching from Tulsa to Oklahoma City. The 3 main highways included are Interstate 44, Interstate 35, and the US 412 Cimarron Turnpike. It also includes I-335 and a small stretch of 40.

No screenshots yet, as I am still modeling the roads. I will release the map once I finish a small section of I-40, Next will be about half of I-335.

    Todo:
Perfect the road model Trace the approximate road with mesh roads
    Prop it up
    PBR Materials
    Make it traffic compatible
Possibly create super simplified vehicle Jbeams to allow for hundreds of cars traffic

My first map by the way.

Yes, this sounds great, would very much like a long Highway just to cruize on, almost a 'Route 66' feel with nicely modeled small Towns to stop by in and re-fuel.

    Take your time, quality first:D

Sorry guys, I have been unable to work on this as 4 days ago a large storm hit my area with 4 confirmed tornadoes and my power has been out. Fortunately I saved just before my power went out, which was also oddly a few minutes before the wind even picked up. But, power is expected to be back tomorrow so I will be able to resume work.

    EDIT
Power came back about an hour ago, but I won't work on it just yet, I expect it go back off because there are still some bent and cracked poles.

Tornados are nothing new in Oklahoma. And I am excited to see if this map comes to fruition, as a Midwestern or Great Plains map is one area of the USA that no Beam map has covered so far.

Hey hope everything's okay If I can ask I was just wondering since I'm not familiar to map modding at all, The orange/yellow line is going to be the in-game road? And if so why does it not follow the highway map perfectly? Just wondering no hate.

hop on Automation you might be able to make a storm chaser using 3d fixtures

Yeah no major injuries that I am aware of, but there was a few severed cars (all parked thankfully) and one house the whole front was just gone.

Yeah, all I need to do now is make the terrain fit the actual cutout that was made for the highway (is not in the heightmap for some reason?) which has been very difficult to get accurate with my only reference being street view. Then I need to texture it. And it does follow the highway perfectly, it's just the viewing angle which makes it look like it doesn't. upload_2024-8-18_17-8-35.png

hello sorry to bump the thread but is this map still being developed or is it going to be discontinued because it would be really cool to actually drive on the interstate

    Just saw this now.
Always welcome more highway levels. We had almost none of those when I first started releasing stuff in 2016~2017.
Tornadoes suck. No two ways about it. One tried to form over my house last May (?) or April, I forget, but I'll never forget the wind picking up, as the lightning was going like this place was surrounded by squad cars with all the flashing going on constantly. I just froze and looked out the window for about 5~8 seconds. Oh a tornado formed - but it DIDN'T touch down. I got super-lucky, as I ran to the bathroom that's off the next bedroom over, as it's central, and I heard the vacuum make the fan start spinning. Ears popped. It didn't touch down on the house here, and dissipated a short bit later without dealing any damage. Thankfully it wasn't a repeat of the mid-70's F2 that CLOBBERED this house (and I always wondered why the walls / floors were so out of level/plumb/square, I knew why after seeing the historic paths of recorded/reported tornadoes).
I don't know why I / we were spared, but I thank God, because he's the only reason I'm still here (and I've lived through - sometimes even unscathed - situations where most would have been dead SO many times). If I hadn't been going to church regularly before then, I'd sure have great reason to now, but I digress I did and still do go every Sunday.
Tornadoes can't be avoided unless you have a basement, dedicated storm shelter, or a ditch nearby. It's not so much protection just going to a central room of the house on the ground (lowest) floor, as debris from other buildings and objects in the tornado's path will make short work of the windows/walls of your house - the tornado alone just tries to create a vacuum to make the house explode (which is why houses fail) and super-strong concentrated winds.
That said, take your time. Don't be tempted to get ADHD/ADD symptoms and not want to work on it, just put it down for a bit and do some other things. You will soon miss modeling or otherwise creating the stuff for your level, especially someone like me who often does nothing but that on the computer. If it's difficult, tell your folks on the thread that you're having trouble and they might be able to help, or take a step back and hop on youtube and learn yourself something. Why? There's nothing better than playing what you made, as it's almost always exactly what you want in the game. Oh, and not only take your time, but don't feel there's a time limit either. I started the terrain for Los Injurus in 2016, 8.5 YEARS ago, that's ALMOST A DECADE, but I didn't start building the city (nor know enough how to do it) until a few years later. Still, I had a dream to build myself a city since the 90's (as I'm in my 40's now), and I could finally do this, and make any model I need for it. It just takes time, though thankfully not as much to make models as it did to finally figure out how to do all this stuff. When it all clicks - knowledge, models you made, the environment you made, and comes together, it's an AMAZING feeling like no other.
So, importantly, what I mean is, don't limit yourself. Time and motivation is your only enemies outside of the game engine.
The enemies in the game engine are draw calls and VRAM space. Draw calls going too high (from unsewn UV mapping, so sew your UV's - textured surfaces on your model - when modeling things) will KILL FPS right quick. That's why Roane County and Los Injurus have slow spots, with the former being worse than the latter with me having learned a lot in my years. There's still houses in Los Injurus that are woefully unoptimized or have normal-facing errors (albeit minor, but they're there and they bug me, it creates dark faces sometimes). VRAM space is of-course the space inside your video card that holds models and textures. You'll need to generally keep this under 8gb so most folks can run this. Don't go bonkers with the forest-brush trees either, you'll eat SYSTEM RAM space for breakfast and may block those with only 8gb RAM (not VRAM!) systems from playing this.
So all in all, this isn't about me; this is about you, and your project. I wish you the best with it, and I recommend not inviting tornadoes to your next party (or editing session!). Hopefully for me I can live long enough to finish my project, and hopefully you don't get nibbled by tornadoes in the mean-time while you're working on yours.
Remember, don't get discouraged, just line your obstacles up in order, one after the other, and take them on one at a time. Don't feel bad if you don't know things. It took me a week and then a morning of trial and error to get the grass to show up green last weekend in Roane County. Ugh. This game-engine is PICKY. We all go through it, so just post a question in the right section of the forum, or look it up in the docs (if you're lucky there's documentation for whatever-it-may-be). If the absolute king of blunderous derptation, me, can make a level, and have it be fun, and have fun doing it, YOU CAN TOO! Just step away if you get burn-out or it's eating your sanity, as it WILL do both of those things, but do your brain a favor and don't put it down no matter how difficult it seems. The reward is way, way, way worth it. You might just be super-duper good at it, and make something that shames what I spent years working on. You never know unless you try; and even if all you do is try, that's better than the 99.9% of folks who did not even do that. Just don't get too angry with bugs, goofy goings-on with the game-engine or editor, or with folks who aren't satisfied (there's always those folks anywhere) no matter what becomes of things good or bad. I'll look forward to playing whatever it is when it hits the servers here, and if you need infrastructure models for your project, Los Injurus has plenty to choose from, all modular and ready to piece together, just don't forget the snap to grid option when you're doing it. Piece together & then rotate and position into place. Shift-drag to copy things in the editor when placing things for quicker highway bridge (or tunnel) section deployment. I made my city modular for this very reason. If I can do it, anyone can, including YOU!
    Always wishing the best.

Burnout really does suck. I've got years of unfinished projects because either I found some arbitrary bug that has no documentation or I worked on it too much, or I just didn't know how to do something. Those projects were all things I just decided to do, not really because I wanted them, but because I just felt like it. But this is different, because I want a good, American highway map for BeamNG. Trying to eyeball the highway cutout got me really demotivated so I stopped working for about a week, but then one night, the thought came to me to look up gradient profiles for the highway and just use those. So after searching, they only seem to exist for the larger interstates of OK, and you need to be an ODOT worker or something to see them. So I gave up once again. But I just got the idea to look up contour maps, and maybe I could create a profile out of that.

I just did that, and it's going quite well. Thank you for this reply, as I probably would not have thought of that idea if I hadn't been typing a response. And thank you for the advice in it. Unfortunately, however, the map I found only covers about half of what I was originally planning to make, so it's about 7.4 miles, but that is still just under 6 minutes when driving at the speed limit (80), but fortunately, the covered area of highway ends right at an exit.

I've just decided to not do 335 and instead do a small section of 40 which is connected to I-335 at the south end. It's barely shorter, but the speed limit is 70 instead of 80. I-335 will come later, but I'd like to get some part of the map functional as soon as I can.

As of now, I've been kinda messing around with the new road architect tool because the bring terrain to road feature of it will be extremely useful. I've traced a good part of the highway which will be the very first release of the map. It isn't long, and takes about a minute or two to get across, but it will at least be something while I work on the rest of the highway. Doing it in small sections also allows me to put more time and detail into it because it's a whole lot less intimidating to detail a mile of road than it is 10. But, a little more work and I will post some pictures. By the time I do, I will probably be very close to releasing this first part.
