No Adjustable Gear Ratios Anymore?

Title Says it all. Why cant we tune the final drive ratio of the differentials of most of the in game vehicles?

 

I believe it is now reserved for race differentials only.

 

Not even race diffs man they always have been adjustable for race diffs only but now they aren't.

 

If you want to... you can go to the vehicle's .zip folder and open the "engine.jbeam" and look for the transmission ratios... I gave the 1996 pessima a 5-speed auto and gave it a 6-speed manual.

But you can tune the Covets final drive...?

If you want to tune the ratio's, just make a new jbeam with the diffs or whatever you want to change, and turn the ratios or other values into variables

That doesn't make much sense. If you can tune the final drive of the Covet and the 200BX AND it's the gearbox, then why does the variable slider appear in the "Differentials" Tuning Section? And it seems that you can tune the differentials for 2 wheel drive Unibodies only. Any AWD (equipped with a viscous/race AWD center differential) vanilla vehicles can't have this tuned.

 

That is because I was wrong, the ratios are defined by the gearbox, transfercases and the diffs, but the method works

 

If anyone is coming here wondering if this feature was removed from the game, it wasn't. The drivetrain simulation change moved the final drive ratio to a different spot but it can still be made adjustable. Not many stock vehicles have the ability reinstated, however. My mod has adjustable final drive even for AWD versions, simply by using the same variable name in both front and rear diffs.
