Need help creating a time trial?

So it's pretty self explanatory, I would like to know if there's a tutorial or if anyone can help me create a time trial using the new "Time Trials" tab/option. I looked around a bit and the only useful thing I could find was a tutorial from Nadeox showing how to create a scenario. But I don't want that. I did also find HighDef's time trial mod, but he uses scenarios too. Is there a way to create a custom time trials track using this new option? Or does it have to be done through scenarios still?

Time trials and scenarios relies on the same principles. That's why you found those scenario threads.
Only changes are some information in the .json file and where the files should be located.

Use as examples the quickraces the game already includes (most levels have them in the 'quickrace' folder)
